a fancy sport-car, drive in sandy land
Today was a good day.
The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over the dunes that stretched for miles around me, and I was about to take this beauty for a spin.
Iād only had it a few days, but I already knew that buying this baby had been a good choice.
After all, I was sure my good friend Sarah Thompson had done an excellent job fixing it up.
And unofficial team mechanic or not, she wouldnāt have let me drive it if it wasnāt up to her high standards.
I couldnāt wait to see what it could do.
This car was everything I loved about luxury and speed in one sleek, powerful machine.
It was more than just a way to get from one place to another, it was an expression of who I was.
And I couldnāt wait to hit the gas and see what she could do.
āDo you think itās stuck?
Mark Davis, my other good friend, asked as he came up beside me.
He was a good photographer, and heād asked to come along when Sarah had suggested that we take our new cars out for a drive.
āNah,ā I said, looking at the car in question that was stuck in the sand.
āWeāll dig it out.ā
Mark laughed, shaking his head.
He was tall, with dark hair and eyes like mine, but he was more of a creative type than I was.
I liked to think of myself as more adventurous and competitive.
Not that Mark wasnāt competitiveā¦he just got more of a kick out of trying to outthink other people than I did.
Thatās why he took pictures for a living, always trying to find new angles on things no one else had ever noticed before.
I, on the other hand, just liked to take the road less traveled whenever I could.
Just like this road, or lack thereof.
Iād been craving an adventure like this one since the moment Sarah had told me sheād fixed the car.
Iād been stuck in the city for months, working long hours in my office job just to save up enough money to afford this car and a trip like this one.
And now I was finally here, with my two best friends in towāmore or lessāand nothing but open road ahead of us.
I couldnāt wait to see what this baby could do.
But before I got into the car and started it upāand I was going to start it upāit seemed only right to take a moment to appreciate the vast expanse of the desert all around us first.
I wasnāt sure why Iād always had this craving to drive through the desert like I was in one of those old movies my dad used to love so much, but I had.
And I was finally about to get my chance.
āIām going to put on my mask before we get started,ā Sarah said as she pulled her helmet out of the back of my truck.
Weād all come prepared for this little adventureā¦at least, I hoped we had.
