Alex Archer competes against Lily in a game to win a suite at a Model UN event, and though Lily loses, she vows to beat him in the future.
Chapter OneAlex Archer had won. He’d actually won. The entire suite. All of it. It was a miracle! He stepped into the luxury hotel room, dropped his bags, and immediately started jumping on the king-sized bed like a little kid, even though he was six feet tall and all muscle from playing lacrosse. The other schools’ representatives for the United Nations Security Council didn’t get in until later that afternoon, but Alex had been determined to get there early and snag the best room in the house. And he had succeeded. He grabbed a pillow and screamed into it at the top of his lungs.“WOO HOO!”His victory was made even sweeter by his competition. Yeah, you’d better believe it: Lily Thompson had been one of his rivals for this suite. And she’d lost.He shucked off his shoes and socks and turned on the TV to ESPN. After all, he had hours to kill before he had to meet up with the rest of his team. His phone chimed with a text from his best friend, Sam, who’d already arrived at their home base for the next four days: Washington University in St. Louis.Sam: How’s the suite?Alex: Awesome! You shoulda come with me.
Sam: Yeah, but I wanted to wait for the rest of the team. You know how much they suck at MUN without me around. That was true. Sam was the best debater and most knowledgeable student in the country when it came to international relations. He was also a total control freak and a bit of a micromanager, and he had zero patience for slackers or people who couldn’t keep up with him.So, even though he was only a junior, he’d somehow managed to get himself appointed as the student president of their Model UN team. It was the only way he could control things.Alex: I know. But you shoulda seen Lily’s face when I walked away from her. I could tell she was about to cry.Sam: Her mistake was challenging you in the first place. You’re not only smarter, but you’re also faster, more determined, and more aggressive than she is.Alex: I know. And if she’d figured that out before now, then she really is an idiot.Sam: Do you think she’s going to try to get back at you?Alex: She’s welcome to try, but I don’t see what she can do. All the other good rooms are already taken.Sam: That’s true. And if you can keep her on the ropes this weekend, then you’ll have her beat.Alex: Yeah, but I want to actually beat her in committee, too. The Security Council is going to be tough this year. I need to stay focused.Sam: Right. Well, I’ll be there soon enough. We’ll let everyone else have second place.Alex: Definitely.Chapter TwoLily Thompson wanted to scream into a pillow.
