"Thank you for coming in, Lila," he says.
"Please set up your presentation so we can review it before our meeting with Mr. Smith International Ltd."
I blink at him as he steps back and gestures to the large screen behind him.
He looks every inch the powerful executive, and I know that my work here is done.
I rush forward, trying not to shake with nerves as I set up my laptop and plug it into the projector system.
"Whenever you’re ready."
His voice is cold and distant, as if he barely knows me.
The last time we were together, things were so different.
It was just a few weeks ago in his office after hours.
We’d been working on this campaign for months, and when we finally got the green light from the client, Ethan had pulled me into his office to celebrate.
One thing led to another, and before I knew it, we were tearing each other’s clothes off.
Ethan had taken me over his desk like a man possessed, fucking me until I could hardly breathe.
I know that he felt something too.
I could see it in his eyes, how he looked at me with such hunger and need that I couldn’t help but be swept away by it.
But there’s nothing of that man here today; only the arrogant, distant CEO who doesn’t have time for anyone or anything except business.
I take a deep breath as I bring up the first slide of my presentation and turn to face Ethan again.
There’s a beat of silence as he looks over at me, his dark eyes skimming over my body, making me shiver despite myself.
This is the most important presentation of my life, and I know that if he doesn’t like it, I’ll be out on the street before I can even blink an eye.
