Scenario:I traded with the devil for a girl.

I traded with the devil for a girl.
I traded with the devil for a girl.
The first time I saw Lilith Hart, she was being held by a powerful demon.
She was so small, so fragile in his grip, and I knew that if I didn’t do something, she would die.
I didn’t know her name then.
I didn’t know who she was or why she was in the demon’s grasp.
But I knew that I had to save her.
So I did what any desperate man would do.
I made a deal with the devil.
The demon broker’s office is dark and cold, and the only light comes from the flickering flames of the candles on his desk.
Michael Grey sits behind the desk, his fingers steepled together as he watches me with cold blue eyes.
He’s a sleek man, with silver hair and a sharp suit that fits him perfectly.
He looks like he belongs on Wall Street, not in some back alley office in the middle of nowhere.
But Michael Grey is no ordinary businessman.
I step inside of his office, my eyes darting to the figure in the chair to my right.
Lilith is tied up, a gag in her mouth, and her eyes are wide with fear.
She looks so small, so lost, that I want to rush to her side and make sure she’s okay.
But I know that she’s not.
I know that she’s been through hell.
And I have to find a way to save her.
It’s all that matters.
I have to save Lilith, no matter what it takes.
Michael Grey watches me, a flicker of curiosity in his eyes.
He knows why I’m here.
He knows what I’m going to ask him for.
He’s waiting for me to come to him, to beg him for his help.
I’m not going to do that.
Michael Grey may be the one who makes the deals, but I don’t need his help.
Not really.
I know what I want.
And if there’s one thing I’ve learned in my twenty-eight years of life, it’s that you can’t trust demons or brokers or anyone else who lives within this godforsaken city.
You have to watch your back.
You have to be prepared for anything.
And more than anything, you have to be willing to risk everything for what you want most of all.
For me, it’s Lilith.
It’s always been Lilith.
Her eyes meet mine from across the room, and it takes everything inside of me not to rush over to her side and tell her that everything is going to be okay.
Because I don’t know that it will be.
Not really.
But I know that I have to save her.
I know that I can’t let her go through this alone.
So I straighten my shoulders and push away my fear and walk over to Michael Grey as if I’m not worried in the least.
“Damien Black,” he says as he watches me approach him from across the room.
“You’re a long way from home.”
“I need your help,” I say simply, and there’s no point in lying; Michael knows exactly what I’m here for.
He knows why I’m asking him for his help, not that he’ll give it to me just because I ask for it.
Michael Grey doesn’t do anything for free.
If there’s one thing everyone says about him—and they say a lot—it’s that he’s a master at manipulation and deceit.
He may help those who come to him, but there’s always a price attached to whatever he gives them in return.
Because I know that nothing comes for free, especially not when it involves demons and brokers and the deals that they make with those who are desperate enough to ask them for their help.
“Help with what?”
Michael asks me, and I don’t have an answer for him, at least not one that I can make out loud.
Because I would give anything, do anything, for Lilith Hart, and that’s exactly why I’ve come here today.
To make a deal with the devil on her behalf, even though I know that nothing good will ever come from bargaining with someone like Michael Grey.
The shadows dance against the walls as I watch him, knowing that there’s nothing I can do to change what’s about to happen, no matter how much I wish that things were different.
No matter how much I wish that Lilith could be safe with me and that we could forget all about the demon who’s been chasing after her for reasons that she’s never told me about.
“How can I help you?”
Michael asks as he watches me, a smile on his face as if he’s known all along that I would come here today.
His office is small and dark, the walls lined with strange artifacts that I can’t even begin to recognize, but it’s nothing compared to what lies before him on his desk.
The relics are small and ancient, and they seem to pulse with power as he watches me from across the room, waiting for me to make my choice and tell him why I’ve come here today.
Lilith is still tied up beside me, but she meets my gaze from across the room, her eyes pleading with me silently as she begs me not to do this.
But I don’t have a choice.
I would do anything for Lilith Hart, and that’s exactly why I’m going to do this too.
“I’ll give you my soul,” I tell Michael as I take my seat across from him, my heart pounding in my chest as I struggle not to show how terrified I am on the inside.
I don’t know if he’ll take me up on my offer or not.
He’s watched me closely as I’ve made my way over to him.
He’s seen how desperate I am to save Lilith, and he knows that I’m willing to do anything to make sure that she’s safe.
But he’s also seen how determined I am to save her too.
And I’ll do whatever it takes.
“Your soul,” he repeats as he watches me.
He doesn’t seem surprised by my offer, but he also doesn’t seem convinced that I’ll follow through on my promise either.
He gives me a knowing look as he leans back in his chair and folds his hands together before him.
“And why should I take your soul in exchange for the girl who’s brought you here today?”
something tells me that he’s heard far too many people make their own offers of their souls before now.
As if that’s something that anyone should promise to give up so easily in exchange for something like this.
“I don’t have anything else to give,” I tell him, and it’s the truth.
I don’t know how much longer I’ll be able to keep myself together before I fall apart completely.
I’m running out of options here.
He asks, and I look back to Lilith as I think of my answer.
“I need to save her,” I tell him as I watch Lilith still tied up on the desk before him, and he watches me closely as he studies the two of us together.
He sees how much I care about her, and he wants to know exactly why I’m here today.
He wants to know why she’s so important to me.
But he doesn’t ask, and instead he just sits there and waits for me to tell him whether or not I’m serious.
“I made a deal,” I tell him as I watch him, and I can tell that he’s listening to every word I say, even though he’s not telling me anything more than he needs to either.
The candlelight from around us flickers in his eyes, making him look even more menacing than he already does.
He leans back in his chair as he watches me, and I know that he’s trying to make up his mind about what he’s going to do next.
He’s watched people like me come and go too many times before now, and he’s seen how easy it is to break someone who’s falling apart at the seams.
And maybe that’s exactly what he’s going to try to do to me now too.
Maybe that’s why he’s smirking like that, even as he watches the two of us from across the room.
Because he has all of the power here, and I don’t.
And maybe he knows that already, even without any kind of a fight from either of us.
“Alright,” Michael says as he rises from his chair and begins to circle around his office, still watching me closely as he goes.
I can feel his eyes on me from across the room, even though I can no longer see them through the darkness.
I can feel his attention on every part of my body as he walks around behind me.
I can feel his eyes on my neck, and on my shoulders, and on every other part of my body that he can see from where he is in this moment.
And something tells me that this isn’t about to be pleasant for either of us.
“Tell me more,” he says as he walks around me, even though I can’t see him anymore either.
I know that he’s watching me from behind, even though I can no longer see his face.
And I don’t want to let him see how much all of this bothers me either, even as I try to keep myself together in his presence.
Because I know that a demon can smell fear from a mile away, and I don’t want to give him any more reason to take me down than I already have right now either.
Something tells me that Michael is already claiming my soul as his own, even before I’ve agreed to give it to him, and I need to be careful in the meantime if I’m going to keep it from him now too.
“Tell me,” I say in response, even as I try to keep myself together until the end, “what’s it going to take?”
“We’ll see,” Michael says as he watches me from behind, and it’s clear that we’re about to get started one way or another now.
But I know that I need to keep myself under control now, even as I try to figure out how much more of this that I can take in the meantime.
