zero to hero farming to survive in fantasy world with uniq skill
I was in the middle of planting my garden when I was summoned to another world.
I was on my knees, my hands in the dirt, when it happened.
One moment I was in my backyard, and the next I was standing in a field of tall grass.
The sky above me was a deep blue, and the sun shone bright and warm on my skin.
The air smelled fresh and clean, like after a rainstorm.
I blinked, trying to make sense of what had just happened.
One moment I’d been planting my garden, and the next I was here?
I turned in a slow circle, taking in my surroundings.
The field stretched out around me as far as I could see, with no sign of civilization anywhere nearby.
In the distance, I could see a forest of tall trees, their leaves a brilliant shade of green.
A mountain range loomed on the horizon, its peaks covered with snow.
I’d never seen anything like it before.
Where the hell am I?
The sun was warm against my skin, and a light breeze ruffled my hair.
I stood there for a long moment, my heart pounding in my chest as I tried to make sense of what was happening.
This had to be a dream, it just had to be.
But no matter how hard I pinched myself, I couldn’t wake up.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.
It would do me no good to panic.
I was here now, wherever here was, and I had no idea how to get home.
If I wanted to survive, I needed to keep a level head and think things through.
Easier said than done, of course, but I was nothing if not practical.
I wasn’t going to let fear get the best of me.
Carefully, I sat down on the ground and took off my shoes and socks.
I could use the time to check my feet for blisters and maybe even get a bit of sun on my skin.
And while I was at it, I could try to figure out what the hell I was going to do next.
I had just taken off my second sock and tossed it on the ground when I heard a voice behind me.
It was deep and rough, with the hint of an accent I couldn’t quite place.
My heart skipped a beat at the sound of it, and I whirled around, my eyes wide with shock.
The man standing there was tall and lean, with sharp features that brought to mind a bird of prey.
His hair was dark as night, and his eyes were a bright shade of blue unlike any I’d ever seen before.
He was dressed in simple brown robes that hung loosely over his slender frame and a pair of heavy leather boots that came up over his knees.
He looked like something straight out of a fantasy novel, or maybe even a video game.
He took a step back when he saw me looking at him, his eyes wide with shock.
“Who are you?”
he demanded, his voice brusque and commanding.
“What are you doing here?”
I blinked up at him, my mouth hanging open in shock.
I’d been so sure that I was alone out here and had no idea what to say or do now that I’d been proven wrong.
The man took another step back and raised his hand, his fingers twitching as if he was about to cast a spell or something.
I scrambled to my feet and backed away from him, my heart pounding in my chest as I did so.
I had no idea what was going on or how I’d gotten here, but one thing was for sure—I wasn’t about to let this strange man hurt me without a fight.
“Don’t come any closer,” I warned him, trying to keep my voice steady and firm despite the fear that was coursing through my veins.
I have no idea what’s going on or how I got here, but I swear I’ll—”
Chapter Two – Elara
The man held up his hands in a placating gesture and shook his head.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” he assured me, his voice softer now that he saw I wasn’t about to attack him.
“I’m sorry if I frightened you.”
He took another step back and bowed his head before turning away from me and walking off through the tall grass as if I wasn’t even there.
I watched him go for a long moment before letting out a breath I hadn’t realized I’d been holding and slumping down onto the ground again.
I covered my face with my hands and sat there for a long moment, trying to process what had just happened.
Who was that man?
What was he doing out here?
And most importantly… where the hell was here?
I had no answers to any of those questions and was starting to feel more than a little bit overwhelmed by the situation when I heard the sound of footsteps crunching through the grass behind me.
My heart skipped a beat, and I whirled around, ready to defend myself again.
But it was only Rylan.
He stood there for a long moment, looking down at me with a strange expression on his face.
“Who were you talking to?”
he asked me at last, his voice gruff.
I shot to my feet and threw myself into his arms.
I wasn’t about to admit it out loud, but I was seriously starting to freak out.
I felt like I was in the middle of some kind of bad dream that I couldn’t wake up from.
What’s happening, Elara?”
Rylan demanded, his voice soft now that he saw how upset I was.
“Did someone hurt you?”
I shook my head and clutched at him harder, burying my face in his chest.
“No one hurt me,” I assured him, my voice muffled by the rough fabric of his shirt.
“I don’t know what’s happening.
I don’t know where I am or how I got here.
We stood there for a long moment, clinging to each other while I tried to calm my racing heart.
Rylan rubbed his hand up and down my back, his touch firm and reassuring.
“Take a deep breath,” he urged me, his voice soft.
“Everything’s going to be okay.”
I nodded against his chest, doing as he said.
It took a long moment, but at last my heart rate started to slow, and I was able to take a step back from him.
“Thank you,” I whispered, my cheeks burning with embarrassment.
“I don’t know what came over me.”
He shook his head, and the smallest hint of a smile played at the corners of his lips.
“You’re not alone out here,” he assured me.
“I’ll protect you, no matter what.”
I swallowed hard, unsure what to say in response to that, so I just nodded again and took his hand in mine before leading him back over to where I’d been sitting before I heard the strange man’s voice behind me.
My heart felt heavy as I gazed out across the grass, knowing that I might never see my family again, or be able to go home to the life I’d built for myself in Boise.
Would they even miss me?
Would they notice that I was gone?
I shivered at the thought, feeling guilty for leaving them all alone in the world with no explanation for my disappearance.
So many things had been left unsaid between me and my family, so many things that I’d wanted to do with my life that I’d never get the chance to do now that I was here in this strange new world.
For a long time, I sat there by Rylan’s side, hugging my knees to my chest while I tried to make sense of everything that had happened over the past few hours.
The sun sank lower in the sky, painting the clouds with pink and gold while we watched in silence, until at last Rylan stood from his spot beside me and held out his hand.
“It’s getting late,” he said softly.
“We should find somewhere to set up camp before it gets dark.”
I nodded in agreement, got to my feet, and started following him as we made our way along the forest’s edge once again.
Even though my heart still felt heavy, I couldn't help but feel grateful that Rylan was there with me.
As we walked along the edge of the forest, I turned to look at the mountains one more time, the sight taking my breath away.
They were so beautiful, and I couldn’t help but marvel at how they looked so different in the light of the setting sun than they had when I first woke up on this side of the portal.
Maybe tomorrow I’ll be able to explore them,” I thought to myself as I turned to follow after Rylan and Kael.
Once I secured a water source and something to use as a weapon, I might even be able to find a way to civilization.
We hadn’t been walking for very long when something caught my eye.
I turned and bent down to take a closer look, and my heart skipped a beat when I saw what it was.
I’d never seen anything like it before, but it was beautiful, and I couldn’t resist reaching out with my finger to stroke one of its deep green leaves.
I reached out with my other hand to touch one of the delicate white flowers that bloomed along its stem, letting out a soft gasp of wonder when I saw how vibrant this one was.
My heart swelled at the sight of the flowers, and I couldn’t resist reaching out to touch one of them.
It was beautiful, and I couldn’t believe how lucky I was to see something like this.
But then I realized that Rylan and Kael had kept walking and were nowhere in sight.
My heart stuttered in my chest, and I leaped to my feet, scanning the forest for any sign of movement.
Rylan!”
I called out, my voice rising in panic when I didn’t get an answer.
Kael, where are you?”
I took off after him, and that was when I realized that the forest had gotten completely silent.
There wasn’t a single bird singing or even the sound of the wind stirring the leaves on the trees.
I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, and I knew that I was in danger.
