My name is Adria Jones and I have discovered that I am the Queen of Mutants.
I was the Queen of Mutants.
The one who would unite us all and lead us to victory.
I would be the one to save my people from extinction.
And I had no idea.
My name is Adria Jones, and I was born a mutant.
I just didn’t know it yet.
It was a normal day, or as normal as it could get in this world.
My village was small, but we were safe from the antimutant forces that roamed the land, hunting us down like animals.
We were lucky to have a barrier that kept them out, but it also kept us in.
We were prisoners in our own home, but at least we were alive.
That’s what my father always said when I asked him why we didn’t leave the village and go somewhere else, somewhere better.
He said that as long as we were alive, there was hope for a better future for all mutants.
I never really understood what he meant by that until now.
I awoke to the sound of the alarm, my heart racing with excitement.
Another breach, just like yesterday and the day before that.
It meant an opportunity to hunt, to kill.
The village walls seemed too confining for someone like me.
I was built for speed, agility, and strength in ways that I knew others weren’t.
I didn’t mind the walls so much, but I needed to get out and stretch my legs, so to speak.
I readied myself, strapping on my protective gear and weapons as I headed to the wall.
A figure stepped out of the shadows, its presence stopping me in my tracks.
“Who goes there?”
I asked, my voice more confident than I felt.
The moonlight cast a soft glow on the figure, revealing a tall man with sharp features and golden eyes.
A chill ran down my spine as I took him in, his presence sending alarms blaring in my mind.
“What are you doing here?”
A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he took a step forward.
Something about him seemed familiar, but I couldn’t quite place it.
“Are you planning to go out there?”
He asked in a deep voice that made me tingle all over.
I nodded slowly, my steps cautious as I moved towards him.
The man let out a small chuckle that sent shivers down my spine.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” he said, his eyes seeming to glow in the darkness.
My heart pounded in my chest as I took in his unnerving gaze.
His eyes were all wrong.
They were empty, devoid of any humanity or emotion.
They were the eyes of a monster.
The realization hit me like a ton of bricks and my heart skipped a beat.
He was not human.
His smirk grew wider as he took another step forward, his eyes never leaving mine.
Fear gripped me as I stumbled backwards, my mind frantically searching for an escape route.
I had to warn the others, to get help before this monster could hurt anyone else.
The man’s grin faded as he watched me scramble away from him.
It was then that I realized that he was not alone.
There were others lurking in the shadows behind him, their eyes glowing with a feral hunger that sent chills down my spine.
Panic overwhelmed me as I turned to run, but he was faster.
I felt a sharp pain in my side as he grabbed hold of me, pulling me into his arms with ease.
I struggled against him, but it was no use.
His grip was like iron, unyielding and determined as he moved me towards the village wall.
“Don’t be afraid, sweetheart,” he whispered in my ear, his breath hot against my skin.
“You’re in for a treat.”
I let out a scream as he pushed me against the wall, his hands trailing over my body in a way that made my skin crawl.
I had no doubt that he was going to kill me, and not in a gentle way.
That’s when my life changed.
The world around me seemed to fade away as a blinding light erupted from my body.
I could feel the energy building up inside of me, screaming to be released.
My vision blurred as my body started to change.
I could feel my bones cracking and shifting, my muscles growing and expanding as my true form emerged.
My skin turned pale and scaly, my hair sleek and black as my body grew in size.
I let out a roar as my transformation completed, revealing my true self to the world for the first time.
I was a dragon.
I blinked, the memory of my transformation still fresh in my mind.
It hadn’t been real, of course.
I was no dragon, that was just a silly dream.
But the memory of it still sent a shiver down my spine.
A hand pressed against my mouth, blocking out the sound of the alarms as I tried to make sense of what was happening.
My eyes widened as I caught sight of the intruder, the same man who had attacked me earlier.
He was staring at me with wide eyes, shock etched on his face as he took in my appearance.
“Uh oh,” he muttered, his eyes darting towards the village wall.
I turned to see what he was looking at, my breath catching in my throat as I realized that the guards were already on their way.
The man let out a curse and grabbed hold of my arm as he moved towards the wall.
I struggled against him, but he was stronger than he looked.
We were almost there when another figure stepped out of the shadows, blocking our path.
He was tall and lean, with sharp features and striking golden eyes that seemed to glow in the darkness.
He looked like some kind of warrior, with a long sword strapped to his back and a bow slung over his shoulder.
“Leo?”
A voice called out in confusion as more figures emerged from the shadows.
Another man stepped forward, a young woman at his side with curly red hair and striking green eyes that seemed to take in everything at once.
She was petite but fierce, with an intelligence that shone through in her gaze.
“Elena,” he said, nodding towards her as he spoke.
“The barrier must have failed.”
She nodded in understanding as she took in the scene before her.
“Who is this?”
She asked, glancing at me with curiosity.
“Get her back inside.”
The man said firmly as he moved towards us.
I opened my mouth to protest, but he cut me off with a sharp look that told me he wasn’t going to take no for an answer.
When we were out of sight of the guards and the other two who had followed us, he finally released my arm and pulled back his hood to reveal a handsome face with short black hair and sharp features.
“I’m Leo Martinez,” he said with a bow of his head.
“Head of Security among the mutants.”
I stared at him in confusion for a moment before a memory surfaced in my mind – a young boy with a shock of blond hair who had once told me that I belonged to a prophecy and that I would one day become their queen of mutants.
The boy had been only seven years old at the time, but he had spoken with such a fierce determination that I had believed him completely.
I had lost contact with him after that day and I had never seen or heard from him again.
Until now, when I found myself face to face with another child of prophecy who bore a striking resemblance to that boy in both looks and mannerisms.
“You’re one of them,” I said softly as the pieces fell into place in my mind.
“The boy at the orphanage… that was you.”
He gave me a small smile and nodded in confirmation as he took a step closer to me.
“Yes,” he said quietly as his golden eyes met mine.
“You’re here to take me back.”
“Not exactly,” he said with a shake of his head as he glanced behind him at the village wall where smoke was rising in thick plumes into the sky.
I turned to look as well, my heart sinking as I realized what that meant for my people who lived inside those walls – they were under attack by antimutants like us who wanted nothing more than to see us all dead or enslaved for their own purposes.
“We need your help,” he said quietly as he turned back to face me once more.
I stared at him in disbelief for a moment before another realization hit me like a punch in the gut – he didn’t just want my help… he wanted me to take over as their leader… as their queen of mutants…
“No,” I said firmly as I took a step back from him.
That couldn’t be right… I couldn’t be their queen of mutants…
“What are you talking about?”
“Adria,” he said gently as his hand closed around mine and pulled me closer to him so that we were almost touching nose to nose.
His eyes searched my face for a long moment as if trying to determine what I was thinking before he spoke again with a fierce determination in his voice that brooked no argument from me – his queen of mutants – his future wife?
