a frog managed to talk a tortoise in to leave it's shell and frog started to use the shell for shelter itself.
She was one of the kindest creatures in the forest, and she was always willing to help her friends out in any way that she could.
Fredrick had noticed this about her, and he knew that it would be the key to getting what he wanted.
He sat there and waited for her to respond, knowing that she would agree to help him.
“Of course I will help you,” Tilly said, her voice soft and sweet.
She looked up at Fredrick with her big, innocent eyes, and he knew that he had her right where he wanted her.
“Thank you, Tilly,” Fredrick said, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice.
“Now, I need you to give me your shell.”
Tilly’s eyes widened in surprise.
“My shell?”
she said, looking down at the beautiful shell that covered her body.
“But why do you need my shell?”
It was a fair question, and Fredrick knew that he would have to be careful with how he answered it.
He had been planning this for weeks, and he wasn’t about to let it slip through his fingers now.
“You see, Tilly,” Fredrick said, trying to sound as convincing as possible.
“Your shell is so perfect and beautiful, and I want it for myself.
I have been looking for a new shell for a long time now, but I haven’t been able to find one that is just right.”
Tilly looked down at her shell, and a small smile crept across her face.
She was proud of her beautiful shell, and she knew that not many creatures were lucky enough to have one like hers.
She looked up at Fredrick with her big eyes, and he could see the innocence and kindness in them.
She was such a sweet creature, and he knew that she would never do anything to hurt him.
He could feel himself falling under her spell, and he knew that he had to be careful if he wanted to get what he wanted.
“You really think that my shell is beautiful?”
Tilly asked, blushing even more than before.
Fredrick smiled at her and nodded his head.
“It is one of the most perfect shells I have ever seen,” he said.
“But I am not sure if I can give it to you.
It was exactly the response that Fredrick had been hoping for, but he didn’t want Tilly to know that.
He needed to play this just right if he wanted her shell, and he wasn’t about to let anything stand in his way now.
“That’s okay,” Fredrick said, trying to sound as sincere as possible.
“I understand how much your shell means to you, but I really need it.”
Tilly looked down at the ground, and Fredrick could see the conflict in her eyes.
She really did want to help him out, but she also loved her shell.
It was one of the most important things in the world to her, and she wasn’t sure if she could part with it.
Fredrick could see the doubt in her eyes, and he knew that it was time to make his move.
“I know how much your shell means to you, Tilly,” Fredrick said, trying to keep the excitement out of his voice.
“But if you give it to me, I promise that I will take good care of it.”
“I know how much your shell means to you,” I repeated to her as I waited for her to give it to me.
I watched as she thought about what I had said, and I could see the doubt in her eyes.
I knew that she was starting to come around to the idea of giving me her shell, and I also knew that it was time to seal the deal before she changed her mind.
I looked down at the ground and waited for her to answer me, my heart pounding with anticipation as I prepared to make my move.
I sat there watching her as she slowly emerged from her shell, and I could feel myself growing more and more excited with each passing moment.
Her eyes were wide with a mix of innocence and curiosity, and I could see that she was starting to come around to the idea of helping me out.
I looked down at her and did my best to smile and act like a good friend as I prepared to make my move.
“Thank you so much for being willing to help me out like this,” I said to her as I tried to keep my voice steady.
“As I am sure you are well aware of by now, I am not like other frogs.”
Tilly blushed at my words and looked down at the ground once again.
She was such a modest creature, and I could see that she was doing her best to not take all of the credit for what was happening right now.
She tried to speak up in her own defense and explain herself to me once again, but I wasn’t about to let her get away that easily now.
“You are such a kindhearted creature,” I said to her as I did my best to keep my voice steady.
“And I know that you would do anything to help your friends.”
Tilly blushed even more than before, and she did her best to smile and act like it was no big deal.
She really was one of the kindest creatures in the forest, and she was always willing to do whatever she could to help her friends.
She didn’t like to brag or boast, but she knew that she was a good friend.
She looked up at me with her big, innocent eyes, and I did my best to keep my excitement in check as I prepared to make my move.
“So, what is it that you need me to do for you?”
In reality, though, there was nothing that I wanted more than to get my hands on that shell of hers as soon as possible.
“I have been thinking, Tilly,” I said to her as a slow smile crept across my face.
“What if you just left your shell here with me for a little while?”
Tilly’s eyes widened at my words, and she took a step back from me in surprise.
Her shell really was a big part of who she was, and she rarely went anywhere without it.
She couldn’t believe that there was something so important happening in the forest that would require her to leave her shell behind, and she wondered if there was any way that she would be able to do it.
“It would just be for a little while,” I said to her in a soothing voice, doing everything in my power to convince her that leaving behind her shell would be a good idea.
“And think about all of the good things that would come from it.”
Tilly thought about it for a moment.
She had never really considered leaving behind her shell before, but she could see why it might be nice to do so.
“It’s not like you don’t have plenty of other shells to choose from,” I said to her as I did my best to keep a straight face.
“Your shell is just so big and imposing, and I think that it might be difficult for other creatures to approach you because of it.”
As soon as I said this, Tilly’s eyes widened in surprise, and I could see that I had hit on something important.
She had never really thought about it before, but maybe her shell did make her seem unapproachable to other creatures.
But surely it couldn’t be that big of a deal.
“I mean, your shell is absolutely perfect in every way,” I said to her quickly, not wanting her to get any ideas.
“But maybe you should consider leaving it behind here with me for a little while.”
Tilly thought about it for a moment.
Sure, her shell was very important to her, but she had been carrying it ever since she was a hatchling, and maybe it wouldn’t be such a bad thing to leave it behind for a little while.
She had gotten quite used to carrying around the extra weight, and maybe it would be nice to take a break from it.
I could see Tilly hesitating, and I knew that I needed to act quickly if I wanted to take advantage of this opportunity.
I cleared my throat and did my best to smile at her in a way that made me seem trustworthy and kind.
“If you leave your shell here with me, I promise to take good care of it for you,” I said to her reassuringly.
“And don’t worry about being naked, either.I have just the thing for you.”
I reached behind me and pulled out a small, green shell that belonged to me.
It was much smaller than Tilly’s shell, but it was still very beautiful in its own right.
The colors were bright and vibrant, and I knew that it would suit Tilly perfectly.
Besides, I had been thinking about getting rid of it anyway.
“You can use this one instead,” I said to her as I held out the shell for her to inspect.
Tilly eyed the shell carefully, and I could see her smiling at me in gratitude.
She really was such a sweet creature, and she appreciated all of the kind things that I had done for her in the past.
“Thank you so much, Fredrick,” Tilly said to me gratefully.
“You are always so kind and helpful, and I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“It’s my pleasure,” I said to her politely.
“But please, do let me know what you decide.”
Tilly nodded in agreement, and I could see her eyes shining with excitement.
After all, this was a big decision, and she didn’t want to rush into it.
She needed time to think things over, and I was more than happy to oblige her.
Tilly was such a sweet creature, and I wanted to make sure that she was completely comfortable before she made her decision.
I knew that she would eventually come around, though, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on her shell.
It really was perfect in every way, and I knew that I would be able to take good care of it.
And besides, I liked Tilly, and I wanted to make sure that she was happy.
It was no problem at all.
Over the next few days, I continued to flatter Tilly and tell her how strong and beautiful she was.
And it wasn’t just talk, either.
Tilly was one of the strongest creatures in the forest, and her shell was truly a masterpiece of design.
It was a shame that she had to carry it around all of the time.
It must have been quite heavy.
As I continued to flatter her, I could see Tilly’s eyes shining with excitement, and I knew that she was finally beginning to come around.
She had never considered leaving behind her shell before, but maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea after all.
And surely there were some benefits to doing so.
After all, I wouldn’t have suggested it otherwise.
“Your shell is just so strong and protective,” I said to Tilly in a low voice.
“I can’t imagine how nice it must be to have something like that wrapped around you all of the time.”
Tilly shivered at my words, and I could see her blushing deeply.
Her shell really was quite nice, and I hoped that she would see things my way eventually.
“You’re right,” Tilly said slowly.
“It is very strong and protective.”
“But don’t you think it’s a little bit too much?”
I thought about it for a moment.
Sure, Tilly’s shell was very strong, but that was exactly why I liked it so much.
Besides, I had been looking for a new shell for quite some time now, and it wasn’t easy to find one this nice.
It seemed like the perfect solution.
“No, I think your shell is absolutely perfect,” I said to her quickly.
“It’s just too bad that you have to carry it around all the time.”
I could see the doubt creeping in, but I had come this far already, and I was determined not to give up now.
“Just think of it as a compliment,” I said to Tilly smoothly.
“Besides, you already have so many other shells.
What’s one more?”
As soon as I said this, I could see Tilly smiling at me, and I knew that she was finally coming around.
Maybe she really would leave behind her shell after all, and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it.
“Keep it out,” I told her quickly.
Tilly hesitated for a moment, but I could see my words working on her already, and I breathed a silent sigh of relief.
Her shell was almost completely out now, and I couldn’t help but stare at it greedily as it lay on the ground next to her.
It was still as beautiful as ever, even when it wasn’t on top of her sturdy back.
I told myself not to get distracted, though – I needed to stay focused on the task at hand.
Just a little bit longer, and everything would be fine.
I caught sight of Tilly looking at me out of the corner of my eye, and I knew that now was my chance.
“Don’t you feel lighter already?”
I asked her quickly, giving her one of my most charming smiles.
“It must be so nice not to have to carry around something heavy like that all of the time.”
Tilly blushed deeply at my words, and I knew that my plan was working perfectly.
She waddled around experimentally, and I watched as her body moved easily without the weight of the shell on top of it.
“You’re right,” Tilly said slowly.
“It does feel kind of nice to be without my shell.”
“You wouldn’t believe the difference it makes,” I told her smoothly.
“You can move so much more easily without it.
And it lets in all of the air and the sunshine, too.
It’s almost like being free.”
Tilly thought about this for a moment, and she looked at her shell curiously where it lay next to her.
It was true – she had never really thought about putting it down before, but it was starting to sound more and more appealing.
She might not have another shell, but surely she could manage without it for one day.
Or even for one hour, if she really wanted to.
“Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad,” Tilly said to herself.
“I’ve lived with my shell my whole life, but maybe just one day without it would be fun.
After all, it’s always good to try new things, isn’t it?”
I watched as Tilly waddled over to the edge of the pond, looking out at the water with an expression of wonder on her face.
She had always been one of the most adventurous creatures in the forest, and she loved trying new things.
It seemed as though she really was starting to come around at last.
“But what will I do instead?”
Tilly asked me nervously.
I smiled at her reassuringly and hopped up to the edge of the pond next to her.
“Oh, there are so many things you could do,” I said to her, my mind already working quickly at the possibilities.
“Why, you could spend the day sunbathing on the rock – or even go for a swim in the water if you felt like it!”
Tilly thought about this for a moment, and I could see a smile creeping slowly across her face.
She really was starting to come around, and I knew that I would be able to persuade her with just a little bit more effort.
“But what about my shell?”
Tilly said as she turned to look at me.
She still had her doubts, but I could see that she was starting to trust me now.
Surely she would see that I was only trying to help her – and that I wasn’t leading her into a trap at all.
I looked at Tilly reassuringly and gave her a quick smile.
Well, you don’t have to worry about that,” I told her smoothly.
“I’ll keep it for you while you’re gone.
And then when you come back – why, you’ll be able to pick it up and take it with you again.
“It sounds like an adventure,” she said at last.
I gave her a quick smile in return, though I didn’t really feel like smiling anymore.
It had been so easy to persuade Tilly to put down her shell for just a little while – but now that she had left it behind, I knew that I would never be able to convince her to take it up again.
And that meant that I would have to find another way to persuade her to leave it behind permanently.
But that would have to be a problem for another day.
For now, I was content to bask in the warm glow of my own cleverness – and to know that I had finally managed to convince Tilly.
“Why don’t you go back home and put your shell down,” I suggested to her quickly before she changed her mind.
“And then we can meet back here in an hour or so and talk about how you feel.
I think you’ll find that you enjoy yourself much more than you think you will.”
Tilly nodded eagerly as she waddled off back towards her burrow, leaving me alone by the side of the pond.
I watched as she disappeared into the undergrowth and then turned back to look at her shell where she had left it lying.
As soon as I was sure that Tilly was gone, I turned and made my way quickly back over towards her shell and picked it up in my hands.
It was heavy and awkward for me – much heavier than my own small shell – but still, something inside me felt a thrill of excitement as I thought about how soon it would be mine.
All I had to do was persuade Tilly to leave it behind permanently – and then I would have a new home of my own at last, where I could rest in peace and comfort for as long as I liked.
But there was no time for that right now.
All that mattered was making sure that Tilly didn’t realize what had happened until it was much too late.
And so with Tilly’s shell tucked under one arm, I hopped off towards the pond and dove in with a splash, ready and waiting for Tilly when she came back ready for her new adventure.
Tilly swam through the water with a happy smile on her face, feeling freer and lighter than she ever had before in her life.
I had lived with my shell for years and years and years – and for all that time, it had never occurred to me how heavy and cumbersome it really was .
Until now that is .
Now that I had left Tilly’s smaller shell behind on the bank and ventured into the pond on my own, I could see why Fredrick had been so eager to get me out of it at last.
It felt almost as though a weight had been lifted from my shoulders – and that weight was my shell .
It was true – I wasn’t nearly as big as some of the other tortoises in the forest but even so, life without a shell was marvelous .
I could swim through the water faster than ever before and even dive down deep under the surface when I wanted .
It almost felt as though I was part of the water itself .
“It’s marvelous,” I called out happily as I swam through the water towards Fredrick .
I had been swimming happily around for hours now but just thinking about how marvelous it really was filled me with a new sense of wonder all over again .
I had to admit it – even though Tilly’s shell was still much too big for me, there was something about it that made me feel powerful and important as soon as I was inside it .
I couldn’t wait for it to be mine.
After all, it would only be a matter of time.
“I’m so glad that you’re having such a good time,” Fredrick called out to me – and as soon as he was sure that he had my attention, he hopped over to where I was in the water and flashed me his most charming and brilliant smile.
“But you know, it’s almost getting late .
Do you think that you’ll be ready to come out soon ”
“Of course,” I said with a happy nod, “But just a little while longer?
I’m having so much fun!”
“Of course,” Fredrick said with a happy nod of his own, “But just promise me this – that you won’t swim too far away from here, all right?
I don’t want anything to happen to my friend.”
“Don’t worry,” I promised him with my best smile, “I’ll be back soon.
And with that, Fredrick hopped back up onto the bank and settled down to wait for me.
I swam around for another hour or so, feeling freer than ever before now that nothing was holding me back.
I knew that I would have to go back to shore and get my shell soon – but even still, a part of me wished that I could stay in the water forever.
After all, life without a shell really was marvelous .
That was when I saw Fredrick, sitting and waiting for me on the bank.
He looked up at me with a smile of his own as soon as I swam over – and even though I knew that I should be getting out of the water and going home, I found myself hesitating for a moment instead.
I had had such a wonderful time without my shell – and after all, Fredrick had assured me that life with a shell really was terribly boring .
Was it really so bad to leave it behind for just a day, after all?
After all, it was only for a day .
“I’ll get out in just a second,” I said to Fredrick at last, “But are you sure that I can’t stay in for a little while longer?”
“Of course,” Fredrick said with a smile, “You can stay in just a little longer.
But do me a favor and come over here first, all right?
I’ve got something to tell you.”
I swam over towards him at once, feeling nervous and excited at once.
What was about to happen next?
I didn’t know – but even still, I trusted my friend and knew that he would never lead me into danger or harm.
Fredrick watched me swim away with a smile of his own – but even still, there was something inside him that felt like it was twisting and writhing with glee as he thought about what was about to happen next.
Tilly would never have left her shell behind if she had known what he was truly planning.
But then again, if he had told her what he was going to do before she set out on this adventure, she never would have come with him in the first place.
And after all, who could really blame her?
But even still, once this day was over and done with at last, Tilly would finally belong to him at last.
