The forest was quiet, except for the occasional rustling of leaves.
I loved being out here in nature, observing all the little creatures that called this forest their home.
I had set up my equipment a while ago and was just waiting for some of the local cats to come by so I could do my research.
It was something I did on a regular basis.
I loved cats, and this was one way for me to learn more about them.
As I waited, I heard a noise in the distance.
It sounded like an animal, but not a cat.
I moved closer, stalking slowly and quietly so I didn’t scare whatever it was away.
I peeked out from behind a tree and froze.
It looked like a small cat, but not quite.
It had a long fluffy tail and tufts of hair around its ears, like a Lynx, only smaller.
The fur on its back seemed to stand up a little, as if it was alarmed by something.
And its eyes were huge.
It looked like they took up half its face.
I’d never seen anything like it before, but I was excited to learn more.
The creature looked around as if it was searching for something before heading down the tree.
It had sharp looking claws that could retract and extend, just like cats, only they were a little bit longer and sharper looking than any cat I’d seen before.
They didn’t look dangerous though, at least not from where I was standing, but I made a mental note to stay away from them just in case.
I knew from experience that even the sweetest of animals could turn on you if they felt threatened or scared enough.
I watched as the creature moved closer to me and then darted off into the bushes once it was back on the ground again.
It moved much more like a squirrel than a cat, using its tail to help guide itself through the trees and bushes while it jumped from one branch to another.
My research would have to wait.
I had to follow this creature and learn more about it before it disappeared completely or someone else got to it first.
It wouldn’t take much for someone to find and harm the creature if they didn’t know what it was or what it could do.
I wasn’t about to let that happen.
I followed after it, being careful not to scare it away or make too much noise in case I did.
I needed to be quiet, so I wasn’t able to call out to Max, but he would be able to find me using the GPS on my phone.
He could also track me and keep an eye on me and make sure I was safe while I followed this creature, assuming he knew where to look first, that is.
