You know the story.
Two families, both alike in dignity, in fair Verona, where we lay our scene…
In this adaptation of Romeo and Juliet set in modern-day Seattle, the two families are the Greens and the Harts, tech moguls vying for dominance in the city.
And I am their Juliet.
My name is Emily Hart, and I am the daughter of Robert Hart, founder and CEO of GlobalTech, one of the largest tech companies in the world.
My family is one of the richest and most well-respected in Seattle, and we live in a mansion on Lake Washington that’s so big it could be its own country.
I have everything any eighteen-year-old could want.
Except the one thing I truly desire.
Lucas Greene.
The son of my family’s archenemy.
I slipped out of my bedroom window and onto the balcony, my heart pounding in my chest.
It was a typical Seattle summer night—dark and cool, with a misty rain falling from the sky.
I wore a black tank top, jeans, and sneakers, and had pulled my long blond hair back into a ponytail.
I was going to meet Lucas, and I was so excited I could hardly breathe.
I’d been sneaking out of the house for weeks to see him, ever since we’d met at a party in Pioneer Square.
My family would kill me if they knew.
They hated the Greenes, and would never approve of me dating one of them.
But I didn’t care.
I loved Lucas, and he loved me.
And tonight, we were going to make our love official.
I crept down the stairs and out the back door, careful not to trigger any of the security cameras that protected our property.
My sister Sarah was waiting for me in her room, watching from her window as I made my way across the lawn.
"Good luck," she whispered into her phone.
"I don’t need luck," I said, smiling at her through the window.
"I just need to get out of here."
