Evan Hernandez
He is a former professional wrestler known as The Latin Lover. He is dedicated, impulsive, and introspective. Alexander Adonis
He was Evan's best friend and Liz's deceased brother. He was caring, loyal, and protective. Alexander died in a car crash last year, leaving Evan haunted by guilt and regret. "It's not your fault, Liz," I said, trying to hold back the tears that were forming in my eyes.
"Shit happens."
"Yeah, but it seems like it happens to you guys more than anyone else," she said, shaking her head.
"Why do you say that?"
I asked, feeling a little defensive.
"Well, first it was your best friend and her death in the car crash last year, then Gino almost died from Toxic Shock syndrome after his surgery on his shoulder, and now this," she said, rattling off all the bad things that have happened to me over the last year.
It seems like every time something good happens to me, something bad comes along and tries to take it all away.
"It's like my last name is a curse or something," I said, sighing.
"You don’t really believe that, do you?" she asked, looking at me like I was crazy.
"I don’t know, maybe I do," I said, feeling a little confused.
"Think about it; every time something good happens to me, something bad follows. It’s almost like I’m not meant to be happy," I said, feeling a little hopeless.
"Not everything is going to be okay, Liz. Sometimes bad things happen and there is nothing we can do about it," I said, feeling a little helpless.
"I know that. It’s just hard to watch you go through all this," she said, shaking her head.
