I kneeled down on the floor and held the warm hand of my grandfather, who was lying on the hospital bed.
"Grandfather, I'm home.
I’m here.
Please wake up.
Grandfather Thompson squeezed my hand weakly.
His eyes half opened, and he mumbled in a low voice.
"Ryan.
Grandfather.
Don't say anything else.
Just rest.
I'm right here.
" Grandfather Thompson always called me 'grandson' instead of 'ryan', but today he called me 'ryan', making my heart ache even more.
The doctor said that my grandfather didn't have much time left.
I held back my tears and stroked his hair.
"Grandfather, I'm sorry.
I’m so sorry that I didn't visit you sooner.
Grandfather Thompson's eyes were half open, staring at me, and then he said weakly, "marry…"
"Marry?" I repeated his words in confusion.
Grandfather Thompson nodded weakly and said again, "marry… adam…"
My brain buzzed with his words.
Adam?
Who is Adam?
Before I could ask him any questions, he pulled out a stack of documents from under his quilt and handed them to me.

I clutched the documents, my heart pounding in my chest.
I leaned closer to Grandfather Thompson and whispered, "Who is Adam?"
Grandfather Thompson's eyes flickered with urgency, and he said in a low voice, "Adam Kings."
My mind went blank when I heard his name.
Adam Kings?
The CEO of our company?
Why did Grandfather Thompson want me to marry him?
I felt a knot in my stomach as confusion and dread filled my heart.
Grandfather Thompson's grip on my hand tightened, and desperation filled his gaze.
"For your future," he whispered before exhaustion took over his body again.

I looked at the documents in my hand, and my heart sank when I saw that it was a marriage contract with Adam Kings.
Panic rose in my heart, and I felt suffocated as if I was going to die from lack of oxygen.
I knew the stakes: my grandfather's life and a future bound to a man I barely knew.
I had no other choice but to sign this contract.
I looked at Grandfather Thompson, who was already asleep, and then I looked at the contract again.
My heart was heavy as I thought about what I should do next.
