Leo asked, his eyes wide behind his glasses.
"Positive."
I grinned at him, my heart pounding in my chest.
I’d been working on this potion for months, and I was so close to perfecting it.
I could feel it in my bones.
"Okay," Leo said, nodding.
"Let’s do this."
He held up the vial of purple liquid, and I took a deep breath.
This was it.
The moment of truth.
I’d been waiting for this moment for so long, and now that it was finally here, I was almost too scared to go through with it.
Almost.
But not quite.
I was too curious for my own good, and way too brave for my own good, and way too stubborn for my own good.
I reached out and took the vial from Leo, my hands trembling with anticipation.
The glass felt cool against my skin, a stark contrast to the heat radiating from my body.
"Here goes nothing," I muttered under my breath.
I brought the vial to my lips and downed the potion in one gulp.
The liquid burned down my throat like molten lava, and I could feel it spreading through my veins.
Leo’s eyes widened even more, if that was possible.
He watched me with a mix of awe and fear, ready to call Dr. Halsey if something went wrong.
And then it hit me.
My body convulsed violently, and I collapsed to the floor in pain.
"Amanda!" Leo shouted, dropping to his knees beside me.
My muscles began to swell, stretching my skin to its limits.
I could barely hear Leo over the sound of my own screams.
"Amanda, hold on! I'm here!"
He grabbed my hand, his grip tight and reassuring despite his obvious panic.
The pain was unbearable, like every cell in my body was being torn apart and put back together again.
I squeezed Leo's hand so hard I thought I might break it, but he didn't let go.
"Leo..." I gasped between spasms. "Don't... leave..."
"I'm not going anywhere," he said firmly. "Just hang on."
Minutes felt like hours as the transformation continued.
My vision blurred, and I could barely make out Leo's face through the haze of pain and tears.
Then, just as suddenly as it had started, the pain began to subside.
I lay there on the floor, panting heavily as the last waves of agony ebbed away.
Leo's hand was still wrapped around mine, his knuckles white from the pressure.
"Amanda?" he whispered cautiously. "Are you... okay?"
I took a deep breath and slowly pushed myself up into a sitting position.
"Yeah," I said hoarsely. "I think so."
Leo's eyes widened again as he took in my new form.
I was towering over him now, muscles bulging beneath my skin with newfound strength and power.
"Wow," he breathed. "You look... incredible."
I flexed my muscles experimentally, feeling the raw power coursing through me.
A triumphant smile spread across my face as I realized just how much stronger I had become.
"This is amazing," I said, marveling at my own transformation. "It actually worked."
Leo nodded slowly, still looking at me with a mixture of awe and concern.
"Yeah," he said softly. "But are you sure you're okay? That looked... painful."
"It was," I admitted. "But it was worth it."
I stood up slowly, testing out my new strength and balance.
Everything felt different – sharper, more intense – but in a good way.
Leo got to his feet as well, still watching me closely for any signs of distress.
"Just be careful," he warned. "We don't know what kind of side effects this might have."
"I will," I promised. "But right now, I feel incredible."
I took a step forward and stumbled slightly as a wave of dizziness washed over me.
Leo caught me before I could fall, his grip steady and reassuring once again.
"Easy there," he said gently. "Maybe take it slow for now."
"Yeah," I agreed reluctantly. "You're probably right."
"Well, at least your shoes survived," he said, breaking the tension.
I glanced down at my feet and let out a small laugh, feeling a mix of relief and embarrassment.
"Yeah, small victories," I replied, still adjusting to my new form.
I flexed my muscles again, testing the newfound strength coursing through me.
It felt surreal, like I was inhabiting someone else's body.
Leo handed me a lab coat to cover myself.
"Here, put this on. We need to document everything meticulously."
I nodded and slipped into the lab coat.
It was a bit snug around my new muscles but manageable.
Just then, Dr. Halsey entered the lab.
Her eyes widened as she took in my transformation.
"Amanda," she said, her voice filled with awe and concern. "This is... remarkable."
"Thanks," I said, trying to sound casual despite the whirlwind of emotions inside me.
Dr. Halsey approached me cautiously.
"I have to commend your bravery, Amanda, but we must be aware of potential risks."
"I understand," I replied, determined to control my new abilities.
"We need to focus on stability and safety measures," Dr. Halsey continued. "We can't afford any mistakes."
Leo nodded in agreement.
"We should start by documenting every change we've observed so far."
"Agreed," I said, eager to get started.
We moved over to the workbench, where Leo began setting up the equipment for detailed documentation.
Dr. Halsey pulled out a notepad and started jotting down observations.
"Let's begin with your physical changes," she said. "Height, muscle mass, any noticeable differences in sensory perception."
I stood still as Leo measured my height and muscle mass with precision instruments.
Dr. Halsey asked me a series of questions about how I felt—if anything seemed different or unusual.
"My senses feel sharper," I admitted. "Everything seems more vivid."
Dr. Halsey scribbled furiously in her notepad.
"Interesting. We'll need to run some tests on your sensory perception later."
Leo finished his measurements and stepped back.
"All done here," he said. "What's next?"
"We need to test her strength and endurance," Dr. Halsey replied.
She led us to another part of the lab where various exercise equipment was set up.
"Start with some basic exercises," she instructed. "Let's see what you can do."
I approached the weights and picked up a dumbbell that used to be challenging for me.
To my astonishment, it felt light as a feather now.
I lifted it effortlessly and moved on to heavier weights, each one feeling easier than the last.
Leo watched in amazement while Dr. Halsey took notes rapidly.
"This is incredible," Leo muttered under his breath.
After several minutes of testing different exercises, Dr. Halsey called for a break.
"That's enough for now," she said. "We don't want to push too hard too soon."
I nodded gratefully, feeling a bit winded despite my enhanced abilities.
We gathered around a table to discuss our next steps.
"We need to ensure Amanda's stability before proceeding further," Dr. Halsey stated firmly. "Any sudden changes could be dangerous."
"I agree," Leo added. "We should monitor her closely over the next few days."
"I'll do whatever it takes," I said resolutely. "I want to make sure this transformation is safe."
Dr. Halsey gave me an approving nod.
"Good attitude, Amanda. Let's take this one step at a time."
Just then, an alarm blared from one of the machines behind us.
Leo spun around quickly, eyes wide with concern.
"What's happening?" he shouted over the noise.
Dr. Halsey's face turned pale as she checked the readings on the screen.
"What the hell is going on?" I shouted above the noise.
Leo and Dr. Halsey looked around frantically, their eyes wide with fear.
Before anyone could answer, the lab door burst open with a deafening crash.
A squad of androids stormed in, their guns blazing.
"Get down!" I yelled, instinctively moving to shield Leo and Dr. Halsey with my new amazon strength.
Bullets ricocheted off my muscular frame, sparking as they hit the metal walls behind us.
I felt the impact but no pain.
Adrenaline surged through me as I charged at the androids, smashing them with powerful blows.
One android's head snapped back as my fist connected, sending it crashing into another.
Leo scrambled to grab a nearby weapon, his hands shaking but determined.
He found a laser rifle and took aim, firing at the advancing androids.
Dr. Halsey darted to the control panel, her fingers flying over the keys as she tried to shut down the lab's systems to prevent further breaches.
The battle was intense.
Sparks flew and metal clashed as I fought to protect my friends and our work.
I grabbed an android by its arm and swung it into another, their bodies crumpling under the force.
Leo's shots were precise, taking down androids one by one.
"Amanda, watch out!" Leo shouted as an android lunged at me from behind.
I spun around just in time to catch its arm and twist it off with a sickening crunch.
The android fell to the ground, twitching.
Dr. Halsey cursed under her breath as she worked furiously at the control panel.
"Come on, come on," she muttered. "Almost there."
Another android aimed its gun at Leo, but I leaped in front of him, taking the bullets meant for him.
The force pushed me back a step, but I remained standing.
"Thanks," Leo said breathlessly, his eyes filled with gratitude.
"No problem," I replied, smashing another android's head with a swift kick.
Finally, Dr. Halsey let out a triumphant shout.
"I've shut down their access! They can't send any more reinforcements."
But we weren't out of danger yet.
The remaining androids were still relentless.
I grabbed one by its torso and ripped it in half, wires and circuits spilling out like entrails.
Leo fired his last shot, taking down the final android that had been targeting Dr. Halsey.
We stood there panting amidst the wreckage of broken machines and sparking wires.
"Is everyone okay?" I asked, scanning my friends for injuries.
"I'm fine," Leo said, lowering his weapon. "Thanks to you."
Dr. Halsey nodded. "I'm alright too. But we need to secure this place immediately."
I nodded in agreement. "Let's do it."
We moved quickly to reinforce the lab's defenses and ensure no further breaches could occur.
My heart was still pounding from the adrenaline rush of battle.
As we worked, I couldn't help but feel both exhilaration and fear.
Exhilaration from the power coursing through me and fear for what might come next.
