"Hello… Dad?"
I said into the phone.
"Jan, is that you? Where are you? We couldn’t get ahold of you for so long. Are you okay?" my worried mother asked.
"I’m fine, Mom. Don’t worry. I just… wanted to call and say hello."
I lied.
I didn’t want my parents to worry, but I had just been transported through a fucking magical portal to a world of dragons and humans.
I had no idea how to explain that to them!
"Jan, Jan!"
My sister squealed.
"Where are you? Can we see you?"
"No, I’m far away. Maybe someday I’ll come visit. Goodbye, Mom, Dad. I love you both."
I ended the call and stared at the phone in my hand.
It was an old model, but somehow it still worked here.
I had no idea how, nor did I care right now.
I was fucking lost in a world where dragons roamed free and towered over cities with ease!
They could destroy everything in a heartbeat if they so wished.
I sighed and looked around.
I was currently in the middle of a large field of grass.
Dragon's Fiancé: A Tale of Unexpected Royalty
I began walking cautiously toward the city, my eyes scanning the landscape.
It was a medieval world, with knights and castles and everything.
I had seen a few people in the distance, but they were all too far away to talk to.
As I got closer to the city, I saw more and more people.
They were all dressed in clothes from another time, and they looked at me strangely as I walked by.
I was wearing a suit and tie, which made me stand out like a sore thumb.
I decided to try and blend in better.
I took off my tie and put it in my pocket.
I unbuttoned my suit jacket and rolled up my sleeves.
I looked around for something to buy some new clothes, but I didn’t see any stores.
The buildings were all tall and old-fashioned, with steeply pitched roofs and wooden shutters.
The streets were cobblestone, and there were no cars or other vehicles in sight.
Dragon's Fiancé: A Tale of Unexpected Royalty
I saw a few horses pulling carts, but that was it.
As I walked through the city, I came across a large open square.
It was bustling with activity, with people buying and selling things from carts or tables.
There were also several large dragons in the square, their scales glinting in the sunlight as they moved about.
They seemed to be interacting with the humans in a friendly way, so I decided to take a closer look. As I walked through the square, I noticed that some of the dragons were wearing saddles on their backs.
A few of them had riders perched on their necks, who were talking to the people below.
The dragons seemed to be enjoying themselves just as much as the humans did.
They were all laughing and smiling together.
It was a truly surreal scene for someone who had grown up in our world.
I saw a group of people gathered around a large map spread out on a table.
They looked like they were having some sort of heated discussion, so I wandered over to see what they were talking about.
As soon as I approached them, one of them turned to me and bowed deeply at the waist.
"My lord," he said respectfully, "we have awaited your return."
"Return?" I asked, bewildered. "I think you have me confused with someone else."
Before I could say anything else, a commotion at the other end of the square caught my attention.
People were parting like a wave, and a figure was rushing toward me with an expression of pure joy on their face.
I couldn’t help but smile as I saw who it was.
It was Kiyoko, the dragon princess.
Her silver hair glinted in the sunlight as she ran to me, her violet eyes shining with happiness.
"My beloved!" she exclaimed, throwing her arms around me and pulling me close.
I stiffened for a moment, unsure of how to react.
But her warmth and enthusiasm were infectious, and soon I was smiling and hugging her back.
The crowd around us watched intently, whispering to each other.
Kiyoko pulled back slightly, her violet eyes searching my face for something.
