I was partying with my friends and a few other people I knew at this one bar when this girl comes up to me, obviously drunk as hell, and kisses me.
Not just a peck on the cheek or lips.
No.Full on, tongue and everything.
My girlfriend walks in right as this is happening and sees the whole thing go down.
She flies off the handle, screaming at me for cheating, even though I tried to tell her it wasn't me who initiated the kiss.
The girl who kissed me was crying and walking away, clearly embarrassed, but I could tell she was going to be sick.
I knew I had to get her out of there before she did and hurt herself.
I grabbed her by the arm and walked her outside.
Sure enough, she vomits all over the curb.
Feeling bad for her, I bend down and start to clean her face with my shirt.
She's crying and clearly upset, so I try to comfort her and ask her where her ride is.
She tells me that she came with her friend and that she's been looking for her everywhere but can't find her.
I ask her where she lives and if she has a second form of transportation to get home.
She answers both questions but seems really out of it.
I'm a certified doctor, so I know when someone is just tipsy versus drunk as hell like she is.
I help her into my car and she stumbles a little.
When we get to my apartment, she runs straight to the bathroom and throws up again.
I go to the kitchen and grab a cold compress, fill a glass with water, and head back to the bathroom.
When I open the door, she's sprawled out on the floor, sweating profusely.
She's mumbling something about being hot.
Before I can hand her the compress, she starts pulling at her shirt, trying to take it off.
I step back, not knowing what to do.
She's clearly having trouble with the buttons, so she starts yanking at her clothes.
"I need to cool down," she slurs.
I quickly run to my room and grab a clean t-shirt out of my drawer.
Doctors Orders
Returning with my old medical school t-shirt, I see that she's still fumbling with her blouse buttons.
Her face is red and she's sweating more than before.
She's mumbling something about being hot and her fingers are shaking too much to work the buttons.
I kneel down beside her and say, "Let me help you."
I keep my movements slow and professional, undoing each button one by one.
Doctors Orders
I try not to look at her as I do this, but it's hard not to notice how beautiful she is.
Once the last button is undone, I help her slip the t-shirt over her head.
She slumps back against the wall, barely able to lift her arms.
I slip one arm behind her shoulders and the other under her knees, lifting her carefully from the floor.
Her head lolls against my chest as I carry her through the hallway.
Her skin feels clammy through the thin t-shirt, and she's shivering now despite her earlier complaints about heat.
In the living room, I lower her onto the couch, supporting her head until it rests on a throw pillow.
She curls into herself, still trembling.
Doctors Orders
I grab the fleece blanket from the back of the couch and drape it over her, tucking it around her shoulders.
I sit in the armchair across from the couch, watching her breathing and checking her temperature every few minutes.
My mind races with everything that happened tonight.
The drunk girl's eyes flutter open, unfocused at first, then lock onto mine.
Her gaze holds steady, surprisingly clear despite how wasted she is.
She tries to sit up, but the blanket slips off her shoulders.
Doctors Orders
I get up to adjust it around her, and our eyes meet again.
This time, it's not the confused fog from the bar or the bathroom.
There's something different in her gaze now - something present.
The warmth of that moment catches me off guard.
I lean back in my chair, relieved to see her more lucid.
Her breathing has steadied, and when I check her forehead again, her skin feels warmer.
The digital clock on my wall reads 3:47 AM.
I adjust the blanket one more time, careful not to disturb her.
She's clutching the edge of it like a child with a security blanket.
Doctors Orders
My phone buzzes on the coffee table - three missed calls from my girlfriend.
I silence it and return to watching the girl sleep.
Her chest rises and falls in a steady rhythm, and her face looks serene now, so different from the distressed expression at the bar.
