**Narrator (V.O.):**
“Let’s face it: health is one of the most valuable things we have. We’ll pay anything for it, especially when it comes to food, water, and medical care.”
---
**[Text overlay: “Are We Being Manipulated?” with thought-provoking imagery.]**
**Narrator (V.O.):**
“The question is: how far are they willing to go? If they can pinpoint diseases based on our DNA, could they withhold information unless we pay for it? It’s a chilling thought!”
---
**[Ending screen with a call to action, upbeat yet serious music.]**

Emily Carter
investigative journalist, friends with other protagonists, short brown hair, sharp eyes, curious and determined
Mark Jensen
tech expert and hacker, works with Emily, tall with glasses, analytical and secretive
Sarah Li
geneticist at 23andMe,acquaintance of Emily and Mark, long black hair, intelligent and conflicted
I got a cryptic message from a source saying he had information about 23andMe, the genetic testing company.
He wanted to meet in person.
I had a million questions for him, but he wasn't talking on the phone.
I was waiting for him at the agreed location when I heard the news that 23andMe's entire board of directors had just resigned en masse.
That seemed like a big deal.
I looked up and there he was, right on time.
Mark Jensen was his name.
He was super skinny and super tall, with thick, black-rimmed glasses.
He looked like what you'd expect from a tech nerd, if you believed in stereotypes.
"Thanks for coming," I said.
"Is this about 23andMe?"
He looked surprised that I knew.
"How did you know?"
"I just heard that their board of directors resigned," I said.
"That's what I wanted to talk to you about."
He looked around the coffee shop, clearly nervous.
"Not here."
"Okay."
"Let's go out the back door," he said.
"There's a park nearby."
I nodded and followed him.
We walked through the coffee shop, past the counter where the barista was busy making drinks, and out the back door.
The park was just a block away, and we walked there in silence.
Mark was clearly nervous.
He kept looking over his shoulder, as if he was worried that someone was following us.
I had no idea what he wanted to tell me, but I was curious.
I'd been an investigative journalist for years, and I'd learned to trust my instincts.
If Mark thought he had something important to tell me, then I was willing to listen.
When we got to the park, Mark stopped at a bench and sat down.
I sat next to him, looking around the park to make sure we were alone.
We were surrounded by trees, and there were no other people in sight.
"Okay," I said.
"What do you want to tell me?"
Mark took a deep breath before speaking.
"I used to work for 23andMe," he said.
"I was one of their top tech guys."
"Okay," I said again.
"What did you do there?"
"I worked on their genetic testing software," he said.
"I was one of the people who helped develop it."
"Okay," I said once more.
"What happened?"
Mark looked around nervously again before speaking in a low voice.
"The board of directors resigned because they found out what we were doing."
"What were you doing?"
Mark looked at me like he couldn't believe I didn't know already.
"We were selling people's genetic information," he said.
"To who?"
"To anyone who would pay for it," he said.
"That's illegal," I said, shocked.
"Yes, it is," Mark agreed.
"But that wasn't the worst part."
"What was the worst part?"
Mark looked at me with a serious expression on his face.
"The worst part is that they're still doing it."
"Who's still doing it?"
"The company," Mark said.
"They're still selling people's genetic information."
