"Another night, another dollar, another crushingly bleak existential crisis."
I mutter to myself as I pull up to the restaurant.
I’m an Uber Eats driver, which means I spend most of my time alone in my car, talking to myself like a crazy person.
Sometimes I forget that I’m not actually crazy and that I can be seen and heard by the general public.
Tonight is one of those times.
A group of pedestrians walk by my car, and one of them Hear me.
"Did you say something?"
One of them asks, looking at me through the window with concern.
I’m tempted to tell them the truth: that I’m an Uber Eats driver, and driving around all night alone with nothing but my thoughts has driven me to the brink of insanity.
Instead, I shake my head and smile.
"Just singing along to the radio."
I lie.
The pedestrian looks unconvinced, but shrugs.
"Okay. Well be careful."
They wave at me before walking away.
It’s nice that they care, but all I really need is for someone to talk to.
