I was woken by the sound of loud roaring.
I rolled over, grinning when I saw a giant standing in the doorway.
"Morning Isgrah, what brings you here so early?"
The giant nodded his head in respect.
"Good morning Eira, Jarl Braga requests your presence at the wall."
I yawned, stretching my arms above my head and arched my back.
"Ah, okay. I’ll be right there."
Isgrah turned and started walking through the city.
Even though he was only half giant, he still towered over everyone else, and most Nord women wouldn’t be able to run alongside him without jogging. Luckily I wasn’t just any Nord woman, and my athletic build made it easy to keep up with him as we walked through the bustling city of Gonduin.
It had only been 20 years since the Dragonborn had helped Ulfric Stormcloak become High King of Skyrim, and 5 years since the city of Gonduin had been built.
It was becoming one of the most prosperous cities in Skyrim due to its unique location allowing for trade with both the Stormcloaks and the Empire.
As we walked through the city I smiled at what was becoming one of my favorite sights.
Defenders of Gonduin: The Unbreakable Wall
The city was already bustling with people, and I exchanged nods with many familiar faces as we navigated the cobblestone streets.
Merchants were already haggling over prices, blacksmiths were hammering away at hot steel, and children were playing in the streets.
I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride at how far the city had come, but also a sense of nostalgia for when it was nothing more than a small camp.
I had been there since the beginning, and had fought alongside Jarl Braga and Isgrah on many occasions to protect the city from threats both within and without.
I remembered the first time I had seen Isgrah, he was just a young man then, and he had been one of the giants that attacked us when we first entered their territory.
He had been different from the others though, he hadn’t wanted to fight us and had tried to convince them to stand down.
They didn’t listen, and he ended up fighting them to protect us.
After that we had taken him in, and he had become one of our most trusted warriors.

As we reached the wall I could see that Jarl Braga was already there, his arms crossed as he stared out into the wilderness.
"Eira, there's something you need to know," Jarl Braga said, his voice low and urgent.
I glanced at Isgrah, who nodded solemnly, before turning back to the Jarl.
"What is it, Jarl? Has something happened?"
Defenders of Gonduin: The Unbreakable Wall
Jarl Braga narrowed his eyes, pointing to the horizon.
"Look."
I followed his gaze, squinting at the horizon.
At first I didn’t see anything, but then I saw a cloud of dust.
As it drew closer I could see that it was an army, their banners flapping in the wind.
I frowned, not recognizing them.
"What is this?"
I asked.
Defenders of Gonduin: The Unbreakable Wall
Jarl Braga shook his head.
"I don’t know. I’ve never seen those banners before."
Isgrah tightened his grip on his axe, and I could feel the tension radiating off of him.
The Jarl’s eyes flicked between us, his jaw clenched as he stared at the approaching army.
"Sound the alarm," he barked.
Isgrah and I nodded simultaneously, turning and sprinting back down into the city.
The city erupted into organized chaos as soldiers rushed to their positions.
The alarm bell rang out, echoing over the city and warning everyone of the approaching threat.
I exchanged a look with Isgrah as we ran, both of us knowing that this was no drill.
I reached the armory quickly, grabbing my gear and armor before rushing back out into the city.
As I strapped on my armor, Isgrah caught up with me, his face grim.
"Eira, there's something else," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.
I paused, meeting his gaze. "What is it, Isgrah?"
