The crowd was deafening, and I couldn’t stop squealing as the city’s heroes unmasked and kissed in front of everyone. It was the perfect ending to a perfect story. Until I saw their faces. The heroes weren’t strangers—they were my BEST friend and my girlfriend.
Taylor Lane
betrayed friend and girlfriend, relationships with Nicolette and Dante, short brown hair, green eyes, loyal and trusting.
Dante Cole
superhero and Taylor's best friend, relationships with Taylor and Nicolette, short black hair, brown eyes, charismatic and protective.
Nicolette Hayes
superhero and Taylor's girlfriend, relationships with Taylor and Dante, long blonde hair, blue eyes, secretive and conflicted.
My world shatters when my girlfriend and best friend betray me.
What do I do when the two people I trust the most in the world deceive me?
When they keep a secret from me, a secret that will change everything.
Will I ever be able to forgive them?
Or will I walk away.
Nicolette and Dante come from two different worlds, Nicolette being a superhero and Dante having a past that he refuses to talk about.
Their love for each other keeps them going, but secrets can only last for so long.
What happens when secrets are revealed?
Will their love still prevail?
Or will it tear them apart.
Taylor Lane
I stared at the text message, my heart racing as I tried to process what it was telling me.
My mouth fell open and my eyes widened, tears stinging at the edges of my vision.
I felt betrayed.
Nicolette and Dante’s secret threatened to upend the relationships we had all had for so long.
I didn’t know what to do, where to turn, who to trust.
Everything I thought I knew had been turned on its head.
Everything I trusted had been ripped away.
A sob rose in my throat and escaped, tears streaming down my face.
I stumbled away from the crowd, pushing through the mass of people who didn’t understand what had just happened.
My phone buzzed again, another text from Nicolette, but I silenced it without looking.
I ducked into a quiet alley, sliding down against the cold brick wall.
Three years of friendship with Dante.
One year of dating Nicolette.
All of it built on lies.
My hands shook as I opened my social media apps and unfriended them both.
Next, I blocked their numbers, each tap of the screen feeling like a stab to my chest.
When I stood up, my legs were wobbly but my mind was made up.
I wiped my eyes with my sleeve, then pushed myself off the grimy ground.
I was ready to leave this nightmare behind.
The streetlight at the alley’s entrance flickered, casting unstable shadows on the wet pavement.
My footsteps echoed between the brick walls as I walked toward the street, but a sudden movement ahead made me freeze.
A dark silhouette stepped into view, blocking the alley’s exit.
I squinted, trying to make out features in the dim light, but the figure remained motionless, positioned directly in my path.
My heart pounded in my chest as I took an instinctive step backward, scanning for another way out.
"Who are you?"
I asked, my voice shaking.
The figure didn’t respond.
The streetlight behind them cast a long shadow that stretched all the way to my feet, imposing and ominous.
I took another step back, my shoes splashing in a puddle of water.
The figure moved forward, and I caught a glimpse of blue and silver fabric.
My stomach dropped as I realized what I was seeing—the same blue and silver costume from the unmasking ceremony.
Nicolette’s superhero uniform.
She reached up and removed her mask, revealing tear-streaked cheeks.
"Taylor, please," she said, her voice breaking.
"Let me explain."
I stared at her pleading expression, my hands clenched into fists at my sides.
The puddle soaked through the bottom of my shoes as she took another step forward, holding out a hand.
I stepped back, maintaining the distance between us.
The costume glimmered in the dim light, a constant reminder of her deception.
When she tried to speak again, I raised a hand to cut her off.
Without a word, I turned around and walked deeper into the alley, away from her.
My footsteps splashed through puddles as I headed toward the opposite exit, ignoring her calls behind me.
The darkness swallowed me whole, but I felt lighter with every step.
