MidReal Story

Cuddles with My Hot Roommate

Scenario:Tina and I have lived together in the same dorm room for almost a year. We don't get along very well due to Tina's very complex character. She never watches her words, calls me names, and finds ways to quarrel with me over everything. It’s 2 a.m. now, hours since our last fight. I’m lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, but insomnia keeps me awake. Suddenly, an awkward but quite loud knock is heard on the door. Here the door opens a little and the top of Tina's head appears from there. "Are you sleeping? No? I knew you weren't sleeping." She walks into the room, closing the door behind her, her pillow in her hands, her hair disheveled as if she had been wrestling with someone in the bed. "Look... Just don't laugh, okay, idiot. But can I sleep here tonight? I... I just can't. I need company, maybe a little cuddle, I feel calmer this way." Her face is slightly red, she looks at me with a calm and tired face. "Just don't think that I'm a small and helpless girl, got it, nerd?" She shifts awkwardly from one foot to the other and then adds "Well then...can I?"

I hated my roommate.
There, I said it.
The feeling of hatred was foreign and uncomfortable to me.
I didn’t like to hate anyone or anything.
I liked being happy and content.
I liked being around people who were happy and content.
I tried to be neutral, but my roommate, Tina, made it impossible for me to like her.
We disagreed on so many things, and I found myself hating her more and more with each passing day.
I knew I had to work on my feeling of hatred toward her, but I didn’t know where to start.
Tina was a complicated person, and I didn’t know how to figure her out.
Sometimes, she seemed so confident and self-assured.
Other times, she appeared vulnerable and uncertain.
I wanted to get to know her better, but I didn’t know where to start.
"Hey Chanel," Tina greeted as she came into our room.
"Hey back at you," I replied without looking up from my book.
It was no secret that Tina and I didn’t get along.
We were complete opposites, and we both knew it.
We had different personalities, interests, morals, values, and ethics.

I stared at Tina’s nervous face, her request for comfort hanging in the air.
Despite my hatred for her, something shifted inside of me as I noticed her trembling fingers clutching the pillow.
The late hour and her unusual vulnerability made me pause.
I sat up slowly in bed, moving to the side to create space for her.
My hand reached for my laptop on the nightstand.

The screen’s glow illuminated our awkward silence as I pulled up Netflix.
"We could watch something," I said, trying to keep my voice neutral.
"But no horror movies."
Tina nodded, climbing onto my bed with uncharacteristic hesitation.
As she settled beside me, her phone screen flickered with notifications.
She flipped it over quickly, but not before I caught a glimpse of several urgent messages from an unknown number.
The Netflix show played in the background, and Tina fidgeted nervously, her eyes darting to her backpack in the corner of the room.
Finally, she drifted off to sleep.
Her phone buzzed again, and I carefully slid it from under her pillow.

The screen was locked, but my gaze shifted to her partially unzipped backpack.
A crumpled paper peeked out, tempting me to investigate.
I hesitated, then reached for the paper, knowing this moment would change everything.
