MidReal Story

Cuddles with My Hot Roommate

Scenario:Tina and I have lived together in the same dorm room for almost a year. We don't get along very well due to Tina's very complex character. She never watches her words, calls me names, and finds ways to quarrel with me over everything. It’s 2 a.m. now, hours since our last fight. I’m lying in bed, trying to fall asleep, but insomnia keeps me awake. Suddenly, an awkward but quite loud knock is heard on the door. Here the door opens a little and the top of Tina's head appears from there. "Are you sleeping? No? I knew you weren't sleeping." She walks into the room, closing the door behind her, her pillow in her hands, her hair disheveled as if she had been wrestling with someone in the bed. "Look... Just don't laugh, okay, idiot. But can I sleep here tonight? I... I just can't. I need company, maybe a little cuddle, I feel calmer this way." Her face is slightly red, she looks at me with a calm and tired face. "Just don't think that I'm a small and helpless girl, got it, nerd?" She shifts awkwardly from one foot to the other and then adds "Well then...can I?"

My name is Chanel, and I am Tina’s roommate.
We were put together by the college, and we were a terrible match.
I was quiet and introverted; Tina was loud and outgoing.
I liked to read and spend time alone; Tina had to have people around her at all times.
She was never at our dorm before noon, and she was always upset when she found out I had been sleeping in her bed.
She accused me of going through her stuff, but I would never do that.
We argued about everything, no matter how small, and we fought constantly.
I thought I had the patience of a saint, but living with Tina drove me crazy sometimes.
Despite all our disagreements, Tina wasn’t a bad person.
She had a good heart, and she always tried to do the right thing.
It was just… she was complicated.
I didn’t think anyone truly understood her.
Sometimes, I didn’t think she fully understood herself.
I was packing up the last of my things when she came into our dorm, her arms loaded with bags.
"Where have you been?" she asked.
"Home.
Where have you been?"
"They assigned me a new tutor," she said.
"Why?""Tina, that’s the fifth one this semester."
"I know."
She looked down.
"They can’t handle me."
"What do you mean?"
Cuddles with My Hot Roommate
"They’re all idiots."
She dropped her bags on the floor.
"Or maybe I’m just too smart for them."
I rolled my eyes.
"Whatever. I’m leaving."
"Wait," she said.
"I have something to tell you."
"What?""I’m sorry."
"For what?"
"For being such a bitch."
Cuddles with My Hot Roommate
"You’re not a bitch, Tina. You’re just…"
"Complicated?"
"Yeah, that’s a good word for it."
"I know. I’m sorry. I really am."
I sighed.
"It’s okay. Just try to be more considerate of me, okay?"
"I will. I promise."
I nodded and turned to leave.
"Wait," she said again.
"I have something else to tell you."
"What is it?"
"I don’t want to fight with you anymore."
"Okay. Me neither."
I smiled at her.
"So we’re friends now?"
She smiled back.
"Yeah, we’re friends now." Tina and I were never going to be best friends or anything, but we did get along better after that day.
We didn’t fight as much, and we even started doing things together sometimes.
We went shopping and out to eat, and we even studied together a few times.
It was nice having someone around who wasn’t afraid of me.
Most people were intimidated by my intelligence, but Tina wasn’t like that.
She was confident in her own abilities, and she wasn’t threatened by mine.
I liked that about her.
It was two in the morning when Tina knocked on our door.
I was lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling and trying to fall asleep.
I had been awake for hours, but insomnia was keeping me from getting any rest.
When I heard the knock, I sat up in bed and looked at the clock on my nightstand.
Who could be visiting us at this time?
The door opened a little, and the top of Tina’s head appeared from there.
"Are you sleeping?" she asked quietly.

"No," I said.
"I knew you weren’t sleeping."
She walked into the room, closing the door behind her, her pillow in her hands, her hair disheveled as if she had been wrestling with someone in the bed. "Look... Just don’t laugh, okay, idiot. But can I sleep here tonight? I... I just can’t. I need company, maybe a little cuddle, I feel calmer this way." Her face was slightly red; she looked at me with a calm and tired face.
I stared at her for a moment.
The dim light from my desk lamp cast shadows across her face.
She was standing there fidgeting, her pillow clutched tightly to her chest.
My first instinct was to make a sarcastic comment, but then I saw her hands were slightly trembling.
The room was quiet except for the hum of the vending machine down the hall.

I sat up slowly in my bed, my back against the headboard, and thought about how far we’d come since our fight about her missing textbook.
Even with all our disagreements, Tina wasn’t a bad person.
She had a good heart and always tried to do the right thing.
It was just… she was complicated.
