When the story starts they are at her room playing videogames after a night of light drinking, and she openly admits she would like to be able to look more sexy at times. She asks him to look at her in a few outfits to guide her, though her real goal is to seduce him.
Lyra
She is a young woman with a distinctive appearance, often feeling selfconscious about her asymmetrical face and small stature. She is shy, insecure, yet determined. Lyra harbors a secret crush on Keith, a childhood friend, and longs for his approval. She enjoys playing video games with Keith and cherishes their friendly banter. Lyra struggles with body image issues until a chance encounter with a confident woman inspires her to embrace her uniqueness and selfacceptance.
Jasmine
She is a freespirited woman who encounters Lyra at a park. She is confident, outgoing, and unconventional. Jasmine notices Lyra's selfdoubt about her appearance and addresses it with kindness and candor. Her refreshing perspective inspires Lyra to embrace her individuality and selfacceptance. Jasmine's encounter leaves a lasting impression on Lyra, serving as a catalyst for personal growth and selflove.
Keith
He is Lyra's childhood friend and confididant. He is charming, kindhearted, and approachable. Keith has grown into a physically fit individual with a compassionate nature. He unknowingly captivates Lyra through his friendly demeanor and playful teasing. While enjoying video game sessions with Lyra, he remains unaware of her crush on him. Despite his popularity among women, Keith values his friendship with Lyra, considering her one of his closest acquaintances.
I was in love with him.
There, I said it.
Not that I would ever dare tell him that, but it was true.
I had been in love with Keith for as long as I could remember.
I knew it was wrong, and I shouldn’t be in love with my friend.
But I couldn’t help the way I felt.
I knew I would never be able to tell him how I felt, so I kept it locked deep inside of me.
"Ha! You died again," Keith said while laughing at the video game we were playing.
"Yeah, yeah," I said while rolling my eyes at him.
"You get to be the one to control the character," I said while throwing my hands up in the air.
"Come on, Lyra, don’t get mad. It’s just a game," he said while still smiling at me.
"I’m not mad; I’m just mad at the game," I said while sighing at him.
We sat there in silence for a few minutes playing the game and drinking our beers.
It had been a long night of drinking, and it was nice to be back in my room just relaxing with Keith.
I had been looking forward to this all day, and now that it was here, I didn’t want it to end.
"Keith?"
"Yes."
"hmm…"
I said while biting my lip.
"What?"
He asked me while looking over at me.
I sighed before biting my lip again and shaking my head at him.
I fidgeted with my sweatshirt sleeve, pulling it over my hands as I tried to gather the courage to ask him what I was thinking.
The alcohol made my tongue looser than it usually was.
"Do you think I dress boring?"
I asked while watching his reaction out of the corner of my eye.
He paused the game and turned to look at me.
"What do you mean?"
I shrugged my shoulders at him, not wanting to say anything else.
He looked at me for a few minutes before he turned back to the game and started playing again.
I sighed before biting my lip again.
"Sometimes I wish I knew how to look… you know, more attractive," I said, standing up and gesturing to my clothes.
"Less like this."
I walked over to my desk and grabbed another beer out of the box that we had brought up earlier.
I opened it and took a drink before setting it down on my desk. "Lyra, you look fine," he said, setting his controller down on the coffee table.
He turned in his seat so that he was facing me.
"No, I don’t," I said, shaking my head at him.
"You’re just saying that because you’re my friend."
"No, I’m not. You look great," he said, looking me up and down.
I rolled my eyes at him before grabbing the beer off of my desk and taking another drink from it.
"You’re drunk," he said with a small smile on his face.
"I am not drunk," I said, shaking my head at him again.
"I’m just a little tipsy."
"Sure you are," he said with a laugh.
I glared at him before turning around and walking over to my closet.
The beer bottles on my desk reminded me why I was being so bold right now. "Would you help me pick some outfits? Tell me what looks good?"
I asked as I walked into the closet and started looking through my clothes.
"Lyra, come on," he said from where he was still sitting on the couch.
"Just come here. Please?"
I asked as I walked back out of the closet with a shirt in my hand.
I fidgeted with my sweatshirt sleeve, avoiding his eyes as he waited for my answer.
The beer bottle sat half-empty on my desk, giving me just enough courage.
"Sometimes," I started, my voice barely above a whisper.
"I wish guys would see me as more than just the nerdy girl who plays games."
I risked a glance at him, and he was now facing me fully on the bed.
"Like, you know, someone they’d actually want to date."
My hands moved to the hem of my oversized sweatshirt.
"Someone hot."
The word felt foreign on my tongue.
Keith’s expression changed slightly, but I couldn’t read it.
