I took my raccoon to the vet yesterday.
I had to get him a health certificate so he could travel with me on the cruise.
The vet was surprised when I told her I was taking Raco on a cruise.
I told her I had been planning it for years.
I finally had enough time off work, and I couldn’t imagine going without Raco.
He’s my pet, but he’s also my best friend.
I have other pets at home, but Raco has been with me since he was a baby.
He goes on all my adventures with me.
I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be able to find a cruise line that would let me bring Raco.
Most cruise ships don’t allow pets.
Some of them allow service animals, but they don’t consider raccoons to be service animals.
I did a lot of research and found one cruise line that would let me bring Raco.
They asked me a lot of questions about Raco.
They wanted to make sure he wouldn’t disturb the other passengers on the ship.
Once they were satisfied that Raco wouldn’t cause any problems, they let me book the cruise.
I’m so excited!
Raco and I are going to see Alaska!
We boarded the ship yesterday evening and set sail right away.
The crew was very friendly and welcoming.
Cruising With My Raccoon
We had breakfast in our cabin this morning, and now I think it’s time to show Raco the upper deck.
I clip his special harness on him and double-check the leash.
Raco is very curious, and I don’t want him getting into any trouble.
We take the elevator up to the top deck, and people stare at us as we walk by.
They’re probably surprised to see a raccoon on a cruise ship.
We get outside, and the morning air hits us.
It’s crisp and salty.
Raco’s whiskers twitch as he sniffs the air.
He pads forward on the wooden deck, his claws clicking softly on the wood.
When a strong gust of wind blows his fur back, he freezes for a second before pressing closer to my leg.
Cruising With My Raccoon
"Are you sure he's going to be okay up here?" a voice asks from behind us, and I turn to see a young woman with a camera slung around her neck.
"He's tougher than he looks," I reply, smiling as Raco relaxes and starts exploring again.
"Well, if he can handle this wind, maybe he can handle the secret I've been keeping about this cruise," she says, her eyes glinting with mischief.
I guide Raco around a loose deck chair that could blow over in the wind, and then I turn to face the woman.
She’s middle-aged, wearing a navy windbreaker with a press badge partially hidden under the zipper.
Her camera is professional-grade, and she keeps glancing at Raco with an expression of poorly concealed excitement.
"What secret?" I ask, and she steps closer, lowering her voice even though the wind would make it difficult for anyone else to hear us.
Raco tugs at his harness, trying to get a better look at her shoes, but I hold him close.
Cruising With My Raccoon
She reaches into the pocket of her jacket and pulls out what looks like a newspaper clipping.
"It's about a hidden treasure on this very ship," she whispers, eyes darting around to ensure no one else is listening.
"A treasure? Are you serious?" I ask, feeling a mix of skepticism and intrigue.
"Dead serious," she replies, her voice steady, "and I think your little friend here might be the perfect partner to help us find it."
