"Eliza, you have a visitor."
My assistant’s voice crackles through the intercom on my desk.
"Who is it?"
I ask, without looking up from the stack of papers in front of me.
I was hoping to get some work done before flying out to LA later tonight.
The intercom beeps again.
"Marcus Flynn."
My head snaps up.
Marcus is the Chief Operations Officer here at Hart Industries, and one of the few people I actually consider a friend.
What is he doing here?
I thought for sure he’d be on his flight to New York by now, getting ready to pitch our newest acquisition to the board of investors tomorrow morning.
"Send him in."
I press the button on my desk to let him through the door, and a second later he walks in.
"Hey. What are you doing here? I thought you were—"
"I was, but there’s been a change of plans."
He walks over to one of the chairs opposite my desk and drops down, stretching long, muscular legs out in front of him.
Even sitting he looks tall and imposing.
He’s probably one of the most intimidating men I’ve ever met, and he’s one of my most trusted employees.
