My chair creaked as I leaned back in it.
I had my boots up on the table in front of me, and my fingers were drumming on the hilt of my cutlass.
He was late, but I wasnāt worried.
I couldnāt shake the feeling that something was wrong, though.
As if on cue, a scrawny man approached me with a note in his hand.
"Is your name Blackbeard?"
He asked nervously when he got to my table.
"Yes."
"I have a message for you. Itās urgent."
He held out the note toward me.
I eyed him suspiciously as I took it from him.
The man was sweating profusely, even though the bar wasnāt particularly hot or crowded at the moment.
He also looked nervous; he kept glancing over his shoulder like he thought someone might be watching us.
I didnāt like it one bit.
There were only two reasons why anyone would want to talk to me: they wanted my help or they wanted me dead so they could collect the bounty on my head.
The latter seemed more likely in this case; this guy didnāt look like someone who would want to ask me for help.
If I found out that he was an informant or a spy working for the authorities, I would kill him without hesitation.
I couldnāt let anyone get in my way; I needed to find my brother before it was too late.
My fingers tightened around the paper as I unrolled it and scanned its contents.
The note was brief and to the point: Redbeard had been taken by Victor Shark, and if we wanted to save him, we would have to act fast.
