Present day
Lizzie Grant
"Oh. My. God."
I stared at the small, sleek device in my hand.
It was hidden behind a panel in Elvis Presley’s private jet, which had been on display in the museum for years.
I couldn’t believe what I had just found.
Austin Butler, my partner in crime and fellow curator, stared at me.
"What is it?"
I turned the device over in my hand, studying it carefully.
"It’s some kind of remote control."
Austin took it from me and examined it carefully.
After a few minutes, he looked up at me with a puzzled expression.
"I think it’s a timer."
"A timer?"
I snorted.
"What’s it going to time? The best roast beef sandwich in Vegas?"
Austin shook his head.
"I don’t think it’s that kind of timer. I think it might be a timer for something much bigger."
I frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Austin leaned forward, his eyes shining with excitement.
"I think this might be a timer for a time-travel device."
My mouth dropped open.
"You can’t be serious."
Austin nodded.
Burning Love
"I’m completely serious."
Austin leaned back in his chair and crossed his arms over his chest.
"Think about it. Elvis was known for his love of gadgets and technology. It would be just like him to have a secret device that could bring him back from the dead."
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing.
"You really think this thing could bring Elvis back from the dead?"
Austin nodded.
"I’m positive of it."
I stared at the device, my mind racing with the possibilities.
If Austin was right, this could be the most incredible discovery in history.
I looked up at Austin, my heart pounding with excitement.
Burning Love
"Let’s do it," I said.
Austin grinned.
"Let’s bring Elvis back from the dead."
We both stood up and walked over to the panel where I had found the device.
Austin took it out of my hand and pressed a few buttons.
The lights in the room began to flicker, and a low humming noise filled the air.
The humming grew louder and louder until it was almost deafening.
Suddenly, there was a bright flash of light, and everything went black.
When I came to, I was lying on the floor, my head throbbing with pain.
I looked around and saw Austin standing over me, looking worried.
"What happened?" I asked him. "I don’t know," he replied. "One minute we were standing there, and then suddenly you fell to the ground. I tried to catch you, but it was too late."
I sat up slowly, trying to clear my head. "Where are we?"
Austin looked around nervously. "I don’t know," he said. "I don’t recognize this place."
I stood up slowly, looking around at our surroundings. We were standing in a large room filled with rows of seats. The walls were lined with windows, and there was a large stage at the front of the room. It looked like some kind of theater or auditorium. "Where are we?" I asked Austin again. He shook his head. "I don’t know," he replied. "But I think we’re in some kind of time warp." "A time warp?"
The stage lights flickered on, revealing a figure in a sequined jumpsuit stepping into the spotlight.
Burning Love
I rub my eyes, adjusting to the dim theater lighting as the sequined figure takes center stage.
The spotlight catches every crystal on his costume, sending sparkles across the walls.
Austin grabs my arm, pointing to the crowd - they're all frozen in place, as if time itself has stopped.
Only we seem able to move.
The figure approaches the microphone, his movements fluid and precise.
The sound system crackles to life, and I lean forward in my seat, recognizing the opening notes.
My heart pounds as his voice fills the space, rich and powerful.
"Thank you, thank you very much," the figure says, his voice unmistakably Elvis's.
Austin's grip on my arm tightens. "Lizzie, this can't be real. We must have triggered some kind of... projection or something."
I shake my head, mesmerized by the scene unfolding before us. "Projection or not, Austin, that's him. That's Elvis Presley."
