I never thought I’d be saying this, but my brother and I had switched bodies.
It wasn’t possible, yet it happened.
I couldn’t wrap my head around it, but I knew I had to make the best of it.
After all, I was now in Pete’s body, and he was in mine.
Talk about a mind fuck.
The worst part was that Pete had an fiancée.
And she wasn’t just any woman.
No, it was Elaine, the woman I had been pining for since high school.
The woman I had dreamed of marrying and having babies with.
The woman I loved more than myself.
And now, here I was, engaged to her.
Not as Tom Holland, but as Pete Holland, her fiancée.
I couldn’t believe it.
And neither could she when she found out what happened.
But before I get into that, let me tell you how it all started.
It began with a phone call from an unknown number.
I picked it up without hesitation, thinking it could be one of my friends playing a prank on me.
"Hello?"
"Tom, is this you?"
I frowned at the familiar voice on the other end of the line.
"Who is this?"
"Tom, it’s me, Pete. Don’t you recognize my voice?"
I froze as confusion washed over me.
Pete was my older brother by eighteen months.
He was responsible and reliable—everything I wasn’t and never wanted to be.
"Pete? Is this some kind of prank? Why are you calling me from an unknown number?"
"Tom, listen to me. I’m in your body, and you’re in mine."
I laughed, thinking it was some kind of joke.
"Yeah, right. And I’m the king of England."
"Tom, I’m serious. Look at yourself in the mirror."
I walked into the bathroom and stared at my reflection in the mirror.
The person staring back at me was not me.
It was Pete.
I gripped the porcelain sink tightly, trying to process what was happening.
My brother’s familiar features stared back at me—sharp jawline, neatly trimmed hair, and the crease between his eyebrows that always appeared when he was worried or upset.

But it wasn’t just his physical appearance that confirmed it was him.
His voice on the phone sounded exactly like Pete’s—calm and collected.
"Tom, are you still there?"
I pulled out my phone and dialed Pete’s number again.
This time, he picked up on the first ring.
"Pete?"
"Yes, it’s me," he replied.
"Shit," I muttered, feeling my heart race with panic.
"What the hell is going on?"
"I don’t know," Pete said, sounding equally confused and frustrated.
"One minute I was sleeping in my bed, and the next thing I knew, I woke up in your apartment."
"And you’re in my body?"
"Yes!"
I couldn’t believe this was happening.
It felt like a dream or a nightmare. "Okay, okay. Let’s try to figure this out," I said, trying to remain calm.
"Do you remember anything unusual happening last night?"
"No," Pete replied.
"I went to bed as usual and woke up like this an hour ago."
I asked, surprised.
"That’s when I woke up too."
"This is crazy," Pete said, sounding exasperated.
"What are we going to do?"
"We need to find a way to switch back," I replied firmly.
"But until then, we have to pretend to be each other."
"Are you kidding me?" he asked incredulously.
"How am I supposed to be you? You’re a mess!"
I rolled my eyes at his comment but didn’t argue with him.
Pete had always been critical of my lifestyle and choices, but he didn’t understand that being a free spirit was who I was meant to be. "Just do your best," I said with a sigh.
"Tom, there's something else," Pete said hesitantly.

"What now?" I asked, bracing myself for more bad news.
"Elaine's expecting you—well, me—to meet her parents tonight."
"Shit," I muttered, feeling a knot form in my stomach.
Standing in Pete’s closet, I frantically sorted through his collection of button-down shirts and khakis.
I had never seen so many boring clothes in my life.
My brother was a walking advertisement for Gap.
I needed to find something that screamed "perfect future son-in-law."
Pete had been calling me every five minutes, bombarding me with instructions and details about Elaine’s parents.
No jokes about politics.
Don’t mention the time I - he - got food poisoning at their summer barbecue.
Remember her father’s firm handshake.
As I finally settled on a navy blue shirt that Pete insisted brought out his eyes, my hands shook while buttoning it up.

The doorbell rang.
