I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, and I've been a die-hard fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars my entire life.
My name is Devonte Johnson, but my friends call me Devonte.
I've been a season ticket holder with my best friend Chris since 2017.
We've been friends since middle school and have bonded over football our entire lives.
Every Sunday during football season, my house on A1A in The Swamp is packed with my friends Jaxson and Caleb, and we always get ready for the game together.
The morning of the big game between the Jaguars and our biggest rivals, the Tennessee Titans, I woke up early feeling like a kid on Christmas morning.
I jumped out of bed and ran to my living room, where I had my Jaguars jersey and hat laid out the night before.
I quickly put them on and ran to my kitchen, where I had a pot of coffee brewing.
Brother From The Side
The aroma of fresh coffee filled the air, and I couldn't wait to pour myself a cup.
I grabbed my favorite mug and filled it to the brim, my hands shaking with excitement.
As I took a sip, I looked out the window and saw Chris's truck pulling into my driveway right on schedule.
Jaxson and Caleb pulled up behind him, both wearing their teal and black jerseys.
We all gathered around my kitchen counter, going over our usual gameday predictions.
Brother From The Side
I pulled out the tickets from my wallet and handed them out to the guys.
The familiar weight of my lucky Trevor Lawrence jersey felt good against my skin as I thought about all the Sundays we'd spent cheering in the stands.
While passing around breakfast burritos, my phone buzzed with an unfamiliar local number.
I was about to ignore it when something made me answer.
"Hello?"
I said, my voice shaking with anticipation.
"Good morning! Congratulations, you're on 1010XL!"
A peppy voice said on the other end of the line.
"You've won our season ticket holder contest!"
My eyes widened in shock as I looked at my friends, who were all staring at me in confusion.
"Really? What did I win?"
I asked, trying to keep my cool.
Brother From The Side
"You and your friends have won VIP passes to meet the team after today's game!"
The woman said excitedly.
I couldn't believe it.
We were going to meet the Jaguars!
Chris dropped his burrito mid-bite, and Jaxson started jumping up and down in the kitchen.
Caleb grabbed the phone from me and started asking the woman questions about how to get our passes.
She told us that she would email them to us right away and that we should arrive at the stadium an hour early to get our passes at will call. We all scrambled around the kitchen, trying to figure out how we were going to get our passes and what we were going to do after the game.
We had already planned on going out for drinks after the game, but now we had to figure out how we were going to get back to our cars after meeting the team.
I grabbed my phone and sent a text to my friend who worked at the stadium, asking him if he could help us out with parking.
He responded right away, telling me that he would be able to get us a spot close to the entrance so that we could easily get back to our cars after meeting the team. As I was reading his response, I felt someone tap me on the shoulder.
It was Chris, holding up his phone with a picture of Trevor Lawrence on it.
"We're going to meet this guy in person," he said, grinning from ear to ear.
I couldn't believe it either.
"Yeah, but what are we even going to say to him?" Caleb asked, his voice a mix of excitement and panic.
"Don't worry, I've got it covered," Jaxson replied confidently.
Brother From The Side
"Just follow my lead and try not to embarrass us," he added with a wink.
I stared at my phone in disbelief as the 1010XL representative explained that we'd been upgraded to a luxury suite.
My hands trembled while writing down the new details.
Chris grabbed my shoulders, shaking me in excitement, while Jaxson sprinted around my kitchen island whooping.
Caleb immediately pulled up the stadium map on his phone, pointing out where our suite would be located.
The radio rep explained that we'd have a private bathroom, catered food, and climate control.
I hung up and immediately called my stadium contact again, Mike, to update our parking situation.
He directed us to the VIP lot entrance, where we'd get escort passes.
"Man, this is unreal," Chris said, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"Do you think we'll actually get to talk to Trevor?" Caleb asked, still staring at the stadium map.
"Trust me, once we're in that suite, I'll make sure we get our moment," Jaxson promised with a confident grin.
Brother From The Side
I grabbed my Jaguars backpack and stuffed it with my lucky teal towel and a few autograph markers.
Chris raided my fridge for waters to bring along.
Jaxson paced the kitchen, rehearsing what he'd say to Trevor Lawrence.
Caleb sat at my coffee table, googling stats and career highlights on his phone.
We huddled around the table, scribbling potential questions on notepads.
Chris wanted to ask about Trevor's pre-game routine.
I focused on defensive strategies.
Jaxson suggested getting videos for our social media accounts.
Caleb wrote down specific plays from last season that he wanted to discuss.
As we finalized our list of questions, Caleb looked up with a thoughtful expression.
Brother From The Side
"Do you think we should ask him about his charity work?" he suggested, glancing around at us.
"That's a great idea," I nodded, "It'll show we're not just fans, but we actually care about what he's doing off the field too."
While loading up Chris's truck, my phone buzzed again.
It was Mike from the stadium.
"Hey, just wanted to let you know that Trevor said he could meet you guys before kickoff. He'll be in the tunnel, so come down there about 15 minutes before the game starts."
My heart skipped a beat.
"Seriously? That's amazing! Thank you so much!"
I put him on speaker so everyone could hear.
Chris gripped the steering wheel tight, his knuckles white.
Jaxson immediately started filming for his social media stories.
Caleb pulled out his notebook and reviewed our list of questions one last time.
I texted Mike back, confirming the time and location.
Brother From The Side
My hands were still trembling with excitement as I sent the message.
We all piled into Chris's truck, double-checking that we had everything we needed: our passes, markers, and that lucky teal towel.
Chris turned the key, and we headed toward TIAA Bank Field.
"Do you think he'll actually have time to talk to us?" Caleb asked, glancing nervously at his notebook.
"Of course he will," Jaxson replied confidently, "I mean, who wouldn't want to chat with us?"
Brother From The Side
"Yeah, and if he doesn't, we'll just have to make it happen," Chris added with a determined grin.
While driving to the stadium, my phone rang again.
This time, it was Trevor Lawrence's personal assistant.
I quickly put her on speaker so everyone could hear.
She explained that we'd receive special VIP passes for the post-game press conference.
Chris swerved slightly on the road, cursing in excitement.
Jaxson immediately started recording the call for his social media stories.
Caleb furiously typed notes on his phone.
The assistant gave us directions on where to meet her after the game to get our credentials.
I tried keeping my voice steady as I confirmed the details, but my hands were still trembling.
"Hey, just to let you know," the assistant continued, "Trevor's really looking forward to meeting you guys; he's heard a lot about your dedication."
Brother From The Side
Chris let out a low whistle, "Man, I can't believe he knows about us already."
Jaxson grinned wide, "Guess our social media hustle is finally paying off."
I pulled out our VIP passes as we approached the security checkpoint near the tunnel entrance.
Chris's hands trembled slightly as he showed his ID to the guard.
Jaxson kept adjusting his Jaguars jersey, a mix of nerves and excitement in his eyes.
The guard radioed someone after checking our credentials, and we waited for what felt like an eternity.
Caleb gripped his stats sheet tightly, his knuckles white with anticipation.
A few minutes later, a stadium staff member arrived with a clipboard, her eyes scanning our passes.
"Alright, gentlemen, if you'll follow me, I'll take you down to the tunnel where Mr. Lawrence is waiting," she said with a professional smile.
We nodded, following her through a restricted corridor lined with team equipment and supplies.
As we walked, the distant hum of the crowd grew louder, their cheers muffled by the thick walls surrounding us.
We turned another corner, and suddenly we were at the threshold of the tunnel leading out onto the field.

Chris grabbed my arm, his eyes wide with disbelief.
I followed his gaze and found myself staring at Trevor Lawrence himself, just yards away from us. He was warming up with a series of stretches and light jogs, completely focused on his routine.
The staff member motioned for us to wait until Trevor finished his warm-up before approaching him.
We watched in silence as he went through his routine, each movement fluid and precise.
I stood there frozen, my lucky teal towel clutched in my sweaty hand.
Chris trembled beside me, his eyes glued to Trevor's every move.
The fluorescent lights lining the tunnel cast an intense glow over everything, illuminating the #16 on Trevor's practice jersey.
Jaxson fumbled with his phone, trying to start recording without being too obvious.
Caleb clutched his stats sheet so tightly that it crumpled in his grip.
The staff member gave us a reassuring nod, as if sensing our nervousness.
Finally, Trevor finished his last stretch and turned in our direction.
I lifted my hand in a small wave, managing what I hoped was a welcoming smile.
Our eyes met, and for a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of recognition cross his face.
Trevor jogged over, a friendly smile breaking his focused demeanor.
Brother From The Side
"Hey, you must be the guys everyone's been talking about," he said, extending his hand.
Chris shook it eagerly, "Yeah, that's us! We can't believe we're actually meeting you."
As Trevor chatted with us about the upcoming game, a woman in a teal jersey approached, holding up her phone.
"Want me to take a picture of you guys?" she offered.
My hands trembled as I handed her my phone, showing her how to frame the shot.
Trevor casually draped his arms around Chris and me while Jaxson and Caleb squeezed in on either side.
The woman counted down from three, but just as she took the first photo, Chris let out a loud sneeze.
Brother From The Side
We all burst into laughter, and Trevor suggested doing another one.
After the second photo, the woman in teal handed back my phone and introduced herself as Maria Santos from ESPN Jacksonville.
"I've been covering Trevor since his rookie year," she said, showing us her press badge.
Chris leaned in closer when she mentioned having some exclusive team intel.
Jaxson pulled out his phone to record, but Maria politely asked him to keep it off-record.
Caleb noticed Trevor nodding along as Maria spoke, confirming her credibility.
Brother From The Side
She gestured for us to huddle closer, lowering her voice so only we could hear.
"From what I've heard, Trevor's working on a new offensive strategy that's going to catch everyone off guard," she whispered.
I glanced at Chris, who was frantically typing notes in his phone.
