He is the captain of the Delta Special Operations Team of Bridges. He is skilled, reserved, and strategic. Eric leads his team on various missions and is respected for his ability to handle challenging situations effectively. He interacts briefly with Ketiwa and Hagen during a potential collaboration meeting. His presence signifies reliability and capability within the organization. But sometimes,his teammates and chiefs complain that he is too self-discipline and serious.
Hagen
He is Ketiwa's assistant and confidant at Bridges. He is straightforward, reliable, and practical. Hagen manages logistics and security for Ketiwa's research. He provides emotional support and ensures that Ketiwa remains calm during stressful moments. Hagen does not participate in physical adventures but remains behind the scenes, handling tasks that support Ketiwa's work and safety.
Ketiwa
She is a scholar working for Bridges, analyzing human societies. She is curious, passionate, and occasionally paranoid. Ketiwa lives in Tara Town, where Bridges has a large base. She enjoys her work but is stressed about a possible mission. Her assistant, Hagen, helps her organize and secure materials. She interacts briefly with Eric, the Delta team captain, hinting at a potential collaboration for her research.
The next morning, I was awakened by the sound of the car's engine starting.
I looked out the window and saw that it was already quite late.
Hagen had already packed everything, and Eric was waiting for me in the car.
I quickly finished my breakfast and followed them out.
"Mr. Eric, how long will it take to get to Tara Town?"
"About four hours, Ms. Ktiwa."
"Ms. Ktiwa? Just call me Ktiwa."
"Okay, Ktiwa."
Eric did not turn his head to look at me but continued driving while answering my question.
"Are you from Bridges, Mr. Eric?"
"Yes."
"So you are also from our organization?"
Eric nodded.
"I've heard that the Delta Special Operations Team is very good. Are you the captain of this team?"
Eric nodded again.
"That's great! I've always wanted to meet the captain of the Delta Special Operations Team. Can you tell me a bit about yourself?"
Eric did not answer but kept driving in silence.
I could not help but ask more questions:
I leaned forward between the front seats, studying Eric's profile.
His jaw tightened slightly at my question.
The car hit a bump, making me grab the headrest for balance.
Through the windshield, I saw the barren landscape rolling past - cracked earth and withered vegetation stretching to the horizon.
Eric's hands gripped the steering wheel harder, his knuckles whitening.
After several long moments, he muttered "Classified" without looking at me.
I caught Hagen's warning glance in the side mirror, silently telling me to back off.
I sat back, frustrated but curious.
Hagen cleared his throat and said, "Eric's past isn't something we discuss lightly."
Eric finally spoke, his voice low, "Let's just say Tara Town holds answers for both of us."
As we drove, I noticed Eric's grip on the steering wheel tightening whenever I glanced his way.
The silence grew heavier, punctuated only by the hum of the engine and the occasional rattle of gravel under the tires.
I couldn't resist breaking it again.
"Why did you specifically come to this research trip?"
I asked, leaning forward once more.
This time, Eric shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his eyes fixed intently on the road ahead.
"It's complicated," he said after a moment, his voice strained.
"I've been working non-stop for a while. My superior thought it was time for a break."
I sensed there was more to it than that.
"So they assigned you to this mission as a compromise?"
Eric nodded curtly, not elaborating further.
Hagen snorted from the backseat, "Workaholics never know when to stop."
The car slowed as we approached the security checkpoint at the entrance to Tara Town.
Two heavily armed guards stepped out, their faces stern as they waved us to a stop.
I noticed Mayor Brian exiting the administrative building, a broad smile on his face.
As we pulled up, he extended a hand in greeting.
"Welcome! It's great to finally meet you all."
Just then, two guards appeared beside Eric's window and firmly grasped his shoulders.
"Standard procedure," Brian explained, gesturing toward a side door marked 'Security.'
"Please, follow them. They'll just need to perform a quick search."
I watched as Eric's jaw clenched, but he complied without protest.
His eyes met mine briefly before he was led away by the guards.
Hagen shifted uncomfortably in his seat next to me.
I knew then that Tara Town held more secrets than I had bargained for.
I follow Mayor Brian through the dimly lit hallway, Hagen trailing behind me.
Both of us can't help but steal glances at the closed security room door.
Mayor Brian's polished shoes click against the concrete floor as he leads us to his office, chattering about the recent developments in Tara Town.
I barely listen, too distracted by the muffled voices coming from the security room.
The sound of a scuffle reaches my ears, followed by Eric's controlled voice.
"Those are my personal belongings. I need them back."
A guard emerges from the room, holding Eric's confiscated knife and dog tags.
Eric's eyes narrow as he approaches us.
"Mr. Mayor, I believe you can understand the importance of these items to me," he says, his voice low and even.
Mayor Brian sighs and nods to the guard, who reluctantly hands over Eric's possessions.
