It's been years.
Years since I've seen her, spoken to her, worked with her.
Years since the magic happened.
Years since we were whole.
After the last Black Eyed Peas album, The Beginning, Fergie just kinda... disappeared.
Stopped returning my calls.
Stopped showing up to our sessions.
I tried to reach out to her, to see what was going on, but she just stopped.
All of a sudden, she was gone and I was left here alone with this group that used to be the four of us.
Now it's just Taboo, apl.de.ap, and me.
We still make music, we still tour.
We still perform.
But it's not the same.
It's missing something and that something is Fergie.
So when I got a text from her asking to meet up, I had to wipe the smile off my face before I met up with her so she wouldn't think I was some punk bitch.
I'm will.i.am, for crying out loud!
I don't get punk'd by nobody!
I met up with her at a coffee shop in Los Angeles and all of a sudden all of these memories came flooding back.
She sat across from me, her eyes bright and full of excitement.
I could tell she was itching to get back into the studio.
I was too.
It had been too long since we'd made music together.
"Let's make a new song," she said, leaning forward in her seat.
I nodded, trying to play it cool, but inside I was buzzing like a fucking bee.
I'd missed her so much and now here she was, sitting across from me, asking to make music with me again.
We talked about old times for a little bit, reminiscing about our hits like "Boom Boom Pow" and "Meet Me Halfway."
We talked about how much energy we used to have when we were in the studio together, how we used to bounce ideas off each other and come up with something amazing.
We talked about how much we missed that.
Then DJ Ammo joined us and pulled out his laptop.
He started laying down some beats and Fergie got up and started dancing around the room.
The spark was back between us and it felt like no time had passed at all.
"I'm thinking something like this," Fergie said, humming a melody as she danced around the room.
We were ready to create magic once more.
