MidReal Story

Among the Girls

Scenario:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

I was in my first period class when I heard the news.
Actually, I wasn’t even in my first period class.
I was in the hallway, trying to figure out where it was exactly.
I had gotten lost on the way there and ended up in a hallway that didn’t seem to have any classrooms.
I was starting to feel like I was in a horror movie or something.
Suddenly, I heard some girls talking as they walked past me.
Their voices were hushed, so I had to strain my ears to really hear them.
But the fact that I had to strain my ears didn’t stop me from hearing every single word they said.
"Did you hear? There’s a new boy in school. He transferred here today."
"I wonder why he’s coming today. I mean, today is like the second day of school."
"Maybe his family just moved here or something."
"I don’t know. I heard he’s really cute."
"Really? Maybe we should find out where he is and go talk to him."
I couldn’t believe what I had just heard.
They were talking about me, Ethan Logan, the only boy at an allgirls school.
I couldn’t stop wondering if this was going to happen all the time.
Was every single girl at this school going to want a piece of me?
Among the Girls
I didn’t have time to think about it for long.
I heard more footsteps coming down the hallway and quickly ducked into an alcove.
I pressed my back against the wall, my heart pounding in my chest.
The footsteps grew louder and I held my breath, hoping whoever it was would walk on by.
The alcove was narrow, but it was big enough for me to fit in.
The only problem was that it wasn’t very deep, so I could still be seen if someone looked directly at me.
I waited until the footsteps were right next to me, then I slowly peeked around the corner.
A group of girls walked past in their uniforms.
They were talking excitedly amongst themselves and didn’t even look my way.
I gripped the strap of my messenger bag tightly in my hand as they passed. "I heard he’s really cute."
Among the Girls
"I know. I can’t wait to see him."
"Do you think he’ll sit with us at lunch?"
"I don’t know, but we should definitely try to find out."
"I bet he’s going to sit with the seniors."
"No way. We need to make sure he sits with us."
The girls walked off down the hallway and I let out a sigh of relief.
Just then, the bell rang.
It startled me so much that I jumped about a foot in the air.
The hallway started to fill with students rushing to their next class.
I stayed hidden in the alcove, watching as everyone rushed past me.
Among the Girls
Eventually, the hallway started to clear out again and I started to make my way out of my hiding spot.
Just as I did, a door creaked open right next to me. I froze as measured footsteps came closer and closer.
I held my breath, hoping whoever it was would just walk past me and not notice me hiding there.
The alcove was a tight fit for me.
I was pressed up against the wall, my back cold against the tile.
I tried to make myself smaller, but it wasn’t much use.
I was too tall to hide very well in a place like this.
The door creaked open a little wider and I heard the sharp click of heels on the tile floor.
My heart pounded in my chest as I waited to see who it was.
I could feel sweat beading on my forehead.
Suddenly, I heard the footsteps stop right next to me.
I froze, my back pressed firmly against the wall.
I couldn’t move, couldn’t breathe.
Among the Girls
I could hear the sound of someone taking a deep breath, and then suddenly, a hand reached out and grabbed onto my arm. I froze as I felt fingers wrap around my arm.
I had been caught hiding in the alcove.
But then, something unexpected happened.
The person holding my arm pulled me out of the alcove and into the hallway.
I looked up to see who it was, and what I saw surprised me even more than being caught hiding.
It was a girl.
She was dressed in a uniform just like all the other girls at this school, but she looked different from them somehow.
Maybe it was her hair, which was pulled back into a tight ponytail instead of hanging loose around her shoulders like most of the other girls here.
Or maybe it was her shoes, which were black loafers instead of high heels or ballet flats like everyone else wore. Whatever it was, she looked different from everyone else here and that made her stand out in a crowd.
But what really caught my attention wasn’t her clothes or her hair or even her shoes.
It was something else entirely.
Something about her that made me want to know more about her, to find out what made her tick and what she wanted from me.
She looked at me with eyes that were dark and mysterious, almost like she had secrets she wasn’t telling anyone about.
And then she spoke, her voice low and husky like a cat’s purr.
"Who are you?" she asked, her voice full of curiosity and maybe even a little bit of suspicion.
Among the Girls
"I’m Ethan," I said, trying to sound as confident as possible even though I was still feeling scared from being caught hiding in the alcove. She looked at me for another moment before nodding her head slightly and letting go of my arm.
