MidReal Story

Among the Girls

Scenario:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

I was walking down the hallway when I noticed all eyes were on me.
I mean, I knew I was getting a lot of attention just because I was the first boy to attend an allgirls school.
But still, it was weird.
I had a feeling that everyone knew my name, my grade, and my schedule.
Weird, right?
All this happened just because I transferred schools in the middle of the semester.
My family and I moved from New York to New Jersey because of… well, let’s just say family reasons.
I was curious about everyone here.
I liked being the new student and learning new things.
But how long would it take for me to get used to it?
Only time could tell.
"Hey, Ethan. Are you finding your way around here okay? We are happy to have you join us."
My head snapped up at the voice that had interrupted my thoughts.
I was looking at a girl who looked like she was a senior here; her blackhair was in a ponytail, and she had killer heels on.
She reminded me of a business woman or a model.
"You’re Lily Chen, right? I’ve heard a lot about you," I said with a smile.
"Likewise, Mr. Logan," she said as she placed her hand on my arm.
"What’s your next class?"
I told her it was maths, and she told me she had to go in the same direction.
As we walked, Lily told me about herself.
Among the Girls
I reached into my backpack to find my math textbook.
The hallway was thinning as students were going into their classrooms.
I felt something in my backpack that I hadn’t seen this morning.
Lily noticed the look on my face and peered over my shoulder.
I pulled out a piece of paper that had been folded up.
Several girls passing by slowed down to see what it was.
It was a love letter, decorated with hearts and written in pink ink.
I shoved it back into my bag, feeling my face burn.
Lily raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile playing on her lips.
"Looks like you've already got a secret admirer, Ethan."
Among the Girls
I sighed, trying to play it cool. "Yeah, but I didn't expect it to happen so soon."
I was sitting at lunch, eating my sandwich and trying to ignore the whispers of the girls around me.
I was sitting alone at a corner table, but I didn’t mind.
I was used to it.
I had been here for a week now, and I still hadn’t made any friends.
But that was okay.
I was a loner.
I liked it that way.
I glanced around the cafeteria, making sure no one was watching me.
Then I reached into my backpack and pulled out the pink envelope.
It was made of expensive paper, and it smelled like lavender.
Among the Girls
I unfolded the letter and started to read it.
"Hey, mind if I join you?"
A girl plopped down in the chair across from me before I could answer.
She had a red pixie cut that stood out under the fluorescent lights.
She was wearing a black leather jacket over a white t-shirt, ripped jeans, and black combat boots.
Among the Girls
She looked like she belonged in a band. "Uh, no. Not at all," I said, trying to hide the letter behind my back.
But it was too late; she had already seen it.
"So you got one too," she said with a smirk on her face.
She reached into her jacket and pulled out an envelope that looked exactly like mine.
I stared at the pink paper in her hand, identical to mine down to the heart stickers and lavender smell.
She slid into the seat next to me, the leather creaking against the plastic chair.
The noise of the cafeteria faded into the background as I pulled my letter out again, comparing the two side by side.
They were identical, same handwriting, same decorations, even the same slight crease in the top right corner.
"Someone’s playing games," she said, tapping the envelopes with her black-painted nails.
I opened my letter first, my hands slightly shaking.
The paper inside was blank.
Ava opened hers - also blank.
"Why would someone go through all this trouble just to send us blank letters?" Ava asked, her voice laced with suspicion.
I shrugged, feeling a mix of confusion and intrigue. "Maybe it's some kind of test or initiation thing?"
Among the Girls
Ava leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "Or maybe someone's trying to mess with us, see how we react."
