MidReal Story

Among the Girls

Scenario:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

I was walking down the hallway when I felt eyes on me.
I mean, it wasn't weird.
I was the new student, after all.
Transferring here in my junior year for family reasons, of course the entire student body would be interested in me.
But it wasn't just one person staring at me.
It was the entire student body.
Literally.
Every single girl in this school was staring at me.
Well, it wasn't like I could blame them.
I was the first and only boy to be attending this allgirls school.
I was kind of a big deal.
So I just kept walking, acting like it didn't faze me at all.
But then, someone grabbed my arm and spun me around.
I was face to face with a girl who looked like she was a senior.
Her black hair cascaded down to her waist in a ponytail.
Her name was Lily Chen, and she was the leader of the most popular clique in school.
"Hey," she said, looking at me with interest.
"Who are you?"
"My name is Ethan Logan," I replied, smiling at her.
"Nice to meet you, Lily."
She looked surprised that I knew who she was, but then a calculating look crossed her face.
"Well, Ethan. Welcome to our school. I hope you're ready for this."
Among the Girls
I kept eye contact with Lily as other students gathered around us, forming a loose circle in the hallway.
Lily stepped closer to me, her ponytail swinging back and forth.
She tilted her head to the side, studying me.
The whispers of the crowd around us grew louder.
I could hear them talking about what was happening between Lily and me.
"Who is he?"
"He's the new student."
"What's his name?"
"Ethan Logan."
"Why is Lily talking to him?"
Among the Girls
"I don't know, but I bet they're going to hook up."
"Look at them. They're practically eating each other alive."
"Is that a smile? Is he smiling at her?"
"Maybe he's interested in her."
"Yeah, right. Who wouldn't be interested in Lily Chen?"
Lily leaned in closer to me, her voice low and husky.
"You will," she said, smiling up at me.
"First rule: nothing happens in this school without me knowing about it."
Before I could respond, a girl with short red hair pushed through the crowd and bumped Lily's shoulder as she passed.
"Watch it, Claire," Lily snapped, her eyes narrowing at the girl.
Among the Girls
Claire turned around, unfazed, and smirked.
"Just thought Ethan should know not everyone here bows to your rules, Lily."
I stood there, sandwiched between the two girls.
The air was thick with tension and the crowd around us murmured in agreement.
Everyone was watching to see how I would respond.
Lily's grip on my arm tightened and Claire crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for my response.
I glanced at Lily's followers, who had moved to flank us in the hallway.
Their skirts swished as they shifted their weight from one leg to the other.
They were all wearing the school uniform: a white shirt with a blue tie, a blue skirt that went down to their knees, and black shoes.
"Second rule?"
I said, turning to face Lily directly and giving Claire my back.
The whispers grew louder and I could hear people snapping pictures of me with their phones.
Among the Girls
Lily's grip on my arm loosened and she stepped closer to me, her voice dropping to a whisper.
"Second rule: loyalty is everything."
She looked up at me with dark eyes, her voice low and husky.
"If you're loyal to me, I'll take care of you. If you're not... well, let's just say it won't be pleasant."
Her fingers trailed down my sleeve as she spoke.
The crowd around us shifted, forming a tighter circle.
Some of Lily's followers exchanged knowing looks while others typed furiously on their phones.
I glanced over my shoulder at Claire, who was standing behind me with her arms crossed over her chest.
Her face was hard as she watched Lily and me interact.
Claire's voice cut through the tension, sharp and clear.
Among the Girls
"Don't let her intimidate you, Ethan," she said, stepping forward.
"There's more to this school than Lily's rules, and some of us aren't afraid to show it."
