MidReal Story

Among the Girls

Scenario:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

I was walking down the hallway when I noticed all eyes were on me.
I mean, I knew I was getting a lot of attention just because I was the first boy to attend an allgirls school.
But still, it was weird.
I had a feeling that everyone knew my name, my grade, and my schedule already.
Weird, right?
All because of the welcoming assembly they had for me this morning.
They announced my name, grade, and even the classes I would be taking.
Then they proceeded to show a slideshow of my baby pictures to my prom pictures.
At least they didn’t get to my naked baby pictures.
That would have been embarrassing.
I was so shocked that nobody booed or heckled me.
I guess the girls at this school are nicer than the girls at my old school.
Wait, did I just say nicer?
No, that’s wrong.
They are not nicer; they are just better at hiding their feelings.
Like this girl walking toward me right now with her ponytailed black hair and clipboard.
She seemed to be the leader of the popular clique, and everyone liked her, but...
"Ethan Logan," she said in a chirpy voice.
"How are you finding our school so far?"
"It’s fine."

I leaned against the wall, trying to process this weird situation.
The girl with the clipboard smiled perfectly, scribbling some notes on her clipboard.
Two other girls were standing beside her, both wearing the same blazer as her and looking me up and down.
They were probably her minions.
The hallway seemed narrower than before, and everyone was slowing down to watch us.
My collar felt tighter than before.
"I heard you had a question about your schedule," she said, stepping closer to me.
She held her clipboard against her chest, looking at me with a fake smile.
"Yeah."
"Let me see what we can do. What classes do you have?"
Among the Girls
I looked at her name tag.
Lily Chen.
"I already gave my schedule to the office."
"Oh, right. I forgot."
She smiled again, reaching for my sleeve.

"By the way, your shirt is not allowed according to our dress code."
I glanced down at my shirt, realizing too late that I had walked into their world unprepared.
I jerked my arm away from her grip, causing her clipboard to clatter to the floor.
The hallway was suddenly quiet.
Her followers gasped dramatically, and Lily’s fake smile disappeared.
She bent down to pick up her clipboard, keeping eye contact with me the whole time.
"That was rude," she said in a voice that carried through the hallway.
"I’m sorry."
My face heated up as dozens of girls watched me stand there alone.
A teacher’s heels clicked against the floor, coming in our direction.
"Don't worry, Ethan," Lily said, her voice dripping with a mix of amusement and authority.
"We'll make sure you fit in soon enough."
Among the Girls
The teacher approached, her eyes narrowing as she took in the scene, and Lily turned to her with a practiced innocence.
