MidReal Story

Among the Girls

Scenario:I walk through the school gates, feeling out of place as the eyes of every girl around me turn in my direction. Whispers fill the air. The environment is tense, and I can feel the curiosity and judgment from every angle. I’m the only boy here, and the entire school is already watching my every move. Me: This is going to be... interesting. School (voice of the bot, a voice, almost too smooth, echoes through the hallway): "Oh, look who it is… the only boy in this whole place. You’re definitely going to stand out, huh? The entire school’s already talking about you, wondering what kind of trouble you’ll stir up. Will you be the nice guy, or will you cause chaos?" I hear giggles and curious whispers from nearby students. "You’d better watch out. There are plenty of eyes on you now. And some of us are already wondering what you’ll do next."

I was the center of attention the moment I stepped into the compound, and all eyes were on me.
Every single student at this school was staring at me.
I didn’t know what the fuss was about.
I mean, I was just a transfer student.
I had one answer though - they didn’t have boys in this school.
Yes, I was a boy, and I had just transferred to an allgirls school.
I didn’t like it, but I had no choice.
Family reasons.
My parents and I had moved overseas for three years, and we had just moved back, so I didn’t get to choose which school to go to.
I was about to turn my attention back to the form in my hand when I noticed that the girls were staring at me even harder now.
Some of them were even drooling.
I couldn’t help but cringe a little.
"Um, hi?"
I gave them a small smile and waved at them, not knowing what else to do.
"Are you the new student?"
Among the Girls
I nodded, feeling a little uncomfortable under their stares.
I gripped my form tighter and tried to smile again.
"Yeah, I’m Ethan Logan. Nice to meet you all."
One of the girls stepped forward, and I could see that she was tall and slender, with a neat black ponytail.
She had an air of authority about her, and I could tell that she was one of the popular girls in the school.
"Hi Ethan, I’m Lily Chen. I’m the senior class president. Welcome to our school."
She extended her hand for a formal handshake, but before I could take it, another girl pushed her way through the crowd.
This girl had short red hair and a rebellious glint in her eyes.
She positioned herself between me and Lily, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Back off, Chen. He doesn’t need your welcoming committee."
Lily’s eyes narrowed at the girl, but she didn’t say anything.
Among the Girls
The air was thick with tension as the two girls stared each other down.
I could feel the hostility radiating off of them, and I wondered what was going on.
Neither of them moved, standing in front of me like two predators sizing each other up.
The crowd around us grew bigger, and I could hear the students whispering to each other.
Some of them even had their phones out, recording the scene.
I shifted uncomfortably, not wanting to be the cause of conflict on my first day here.
Just when I thought things couldn’t get any worse, a teacher pushed her way through the crowd.
Her heels clicked against the floor as she walked toward us, and her smile was warm and welcoming.
She positioned herself between the two girls, extending her hand toward me.
"Hello Ethan, I’m Ms. Lee. Welcome to our school."
"Thank you, Ms. Lee," I replied, shaking her hand and feeling a bit more at ease.
Lily shot a glance at the red-haired girl, her voice dripping with sarcasm, "See, Scarlett? Not everything has to be a showdown."
Scarlett rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath, "Just making sure he knows who really runs this place."
Among the Girls
The crowd around us started to disperse, and Ms. Lee guided me toward the administration office.
I glanced back over my shoulder, and Lily was still standing there, watching me.
When our eyes met, she gave me that gentle smile again, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
My heart skipped a beat at the sight, and I felt a flutter in my chest.
Scarlett noticed where my attention was, and she stepped closer to me, bumping her shoulder against mine as she passed.
"Watch yourself with that one," she whispered, just loud enough for me to hear.
Ms. Lee called out from ahead of us, "Ethan!"
I hurried to catch up to her, my mind still stuck on the way Lily had smiled at me.
As we walked, Ms. Lee leaned in slightly and said, "Don't worry about Scarlett; she's just protective of her friends."
I nodded, trying to process everything, and asked, "Is there something I should know about Lily?"
Ms. Lee paused for a moment before replying, "Let's just say she has a reputation for getting what she wants."
Among the Girls
I leaned against my new locker, trying to make sense of Ms. Lee’s warning.
The hallway was bustling with students rushing between classes, and I could feel the weight of their stares on me.
I was the only boy in this whole place, and I knew I was going to stand out.
The entire school was already talking about me, wondering what kind of trouble I’d stir up.
I opened my locker and started organizing my books, trying to ignore the whispers and giggles from nearby students.
A group of girls stood a few lockers down from me, whispering and pointing in my direction.
They weren’t even trying to hide their interest, and I could feel their eyes on me like a physical touch.
At the end of the corridor, Lily held court with her followers clustered around her.
She caught my eye as she smiled and waved at me, but I noticed how the other students parted around her like water.
On the opposite end of the hallway, Scarlett leaned against the wall, sketching in a notebook.
Among the Girls
I closed my locker and turned to find Scarlett standing closer than I expected.
Her red pixie cut caught the fluorescent lights, and she held her sketchbook against her chest like a shield.
But despite the defensive posture, her shoulders were relaxed, and her eyes were steady on me.
She extended the lunch invitation with a casual shrug, but her gaze darted briefly toward Lily’s group before returning to me.
I hesitated for a moment, sensing the obvious politics at play.
The bell rang out, making several nearby girls jump, but Scarlett waited patiently for my answer.
More students flooded into the hallway, creating a buffer between us and Lily’s watchful gaze.
Among the Girls
I nodded, and Scarlett turned to lead the way.
We moved through the hallway, and the other students parted around us like water.
Scarlett walked with a purpose, her red hair bobbing ahead of me as she led us away from the main cafeteria.
We ended up in a quiet art classroom, the sunlight streaming through paint-splattered windows.
The room was filled with rows of desks, each one covered in sketches and half-finished drawings.
Scarlett claimed her usual spot in the corner, and she pulled up a chair for me.
She reached into her bag and pulled out two wrapped sandwiches, passing one to me before sitting down.
The classroom felt like a sanctuary compared to the charged atmosphere outside.
Among the Girls
I watched as Scarlett unwrapped her sandwich and took a bite before looking at me.
"So, Ethan, what’s the story?" she asked, her green eyes narrowing slightly.
"What do you mean?"
I replied, watching as her face tightened in response.
She set her half-eaten sandwich on the desk and wiped her hands slowly on a napkin.
The sunlight through the stained glass windows cast colored patterns across Scarlett’s sketchbook, and she closed it with deliberate care.
She ran her fingers along the worn edges of the cover before looking up at me.
Her green eyes were sharp with warning.
"Lily isn’t who everyone thinks she is," she said, pulling out her phone and scrolling through last semester’s deleted social media posts.
"Take my word for it. You don’t want to get tangled up with Lily."
Scarlett
I nodded, realizing that Scarlett's warning was the only truth I needed to hear.
