I go on a camping trip alone only to find my enemy followed me to annoy me
Alex Harlow
He is a skilled hacker with a penchant for trouble. He is rebellious, resourceful, and sarcastic. Alex finds himself on a camping trip alone, seeking some solitude and away from his friends' constant teasing about his lack of camping experience. However, his plans are ruined when his best friend, Mason, tracks him down, bringing a new girlfriend, Sydney. The trip becomes unexpectedly complicated as Alex navigates Mason's possessive behavior and his own unexpected attraction to Sydney.
Mason
He is Alex's best friend and often serves as both teammate and confidant in their adventures together. He is protective, assertive, and mischievous. Mason frequently pulls pranks on his friends and enjoys causing chaos. During Alex's solo camping trip, he shows up unexpectedly with his girlfriend Sydney, indicating a deep affection for Alex. However, Mason's possessive behavior towards Sydney suggests an underlying competitive nature in their relationship with Alex.
Sydney
She is Mason's girlfriend who joins them on the camping trip. She is outgoing, spirited, and alluring. Sydney catches Alex off guard with her bold personality and captures his attention despite initially intending to avoid social interaction. Her presence creates tension between Mason and Alex as Sydney's flirtatious nature challenges the boundaries set by Mason's dominant personality in their relationship.
I, Alex Harlow, was supposed to go camping alone.
It was supposed to be my first camping trip ever, and I wanted to do it by myself.
I’d never been camping before, and all my friends made fun of me for it.
Even though they didn’t mean any harm, I wanted to prove them wrong.
So, I went camping alone for the first time in my life.
But little did I know, that my plans were going to get ruined.
I had everything set up.
My tent was pitched, and a fire was going.
I even caught two fish from the stream and cooked them over the fire.
It wasn’t half bad for my first time camping.
Just as I was going to sit down and eat my fish, I heard a rustling in the bushes behind me.
I turned around and saw Mason, my best friend, and his girlfriend Sydney walking toward me.
"Sydney?"
I muttered to myself.
What the hell was she doing here?
I thought I was finally going to get some solitude.
"Hey man," Mason said as he approached me.
"What are you doing here?"
I sighed internally but tried to keep a smile on my face for his sake.
"Hey Mason. I’m camping out here alone. You know, my first time."
"Ah cool," Mason said as he looked around my campsite.
"Nice setup you have here. But I have to ask… why did you choose this place? It’s kinda far away from civilization."
"I just wanted some solitude," I replied as I shrugged my shoulders.
I gestured toward the two fish on the makeshift grill, steam rising from their crispy skin.
Sydney’s eyes lit up at the sight, but Mason stepped between us.
"We brought our own food," he said, pulling out two granola bars from his backpack.
I could see Sydney frown slightly, but she didn’t say anything.
The awkward silence that followed was palpable.
Finally, Sydney walked past Mason and sat down on the log next to my fire.
"Those smell really good," she said, nodding towards the fish.
Mason’s jaw tightened, but he didn’t say anything.
I slid one fish onto a clean piece of bark and handed it to Sydney.
She took a bite and nodded in approval.
"Thanks," she said with a smile.
Mason watched us quietly, his eyes flickering between Sydney and me, as the fire crackled in the growing darkness.
After dinner, I cleaned up while Sydney helped.
Our hands brushed occasionally as we packed away the leftovers.
Mason paced near the treeline, checking his phone for what felt like the hundredth time, even though we all knew the signal was spotty out here.
The campfire had dimmed, casting long shadows across our faces.
Sydney sat close to me, her voice low as she told me about her previous camping experiences.
I found myself leaning in, fascinated by her stories of adventure and laughter.
The flickering flames danced across her face, making her eyes sparkle in a way that seemed almost otherworldly.
Mason interrupted our conversation, his voice carrying an edge I couldn’t quite place.
"It’s still early," he said, his words coming out a bit too sharp.
"We should go exploring before it gets too dark."
I glanced at Sydney, who seemed hesitant.
"But it’s getting dark already," she said, her brow furrowing slightly.
Mason’s posture stiffened, but he forced a smile onto his face.
"Come on. It’ll be fun," he said, reaching for Sydney’s hand and pulling her up from her seat.
Sydney hesitated, glancing back at me with a hint of uncertainty in her eyes.
"Maybe we should just stay by the fire," she suggested softly, her voice almost drowned out by the crackling flames.
Mason's grip on her hand tightened slightly as he replied, "I just think there's something you both need to see."
