As I started out on a run, I rounded a corner to see another man running toward me. Even though it wasn't that hot out, he had no shirt on and I was shocked by his muscular chest. His cute face looked at me curiously.
Arthur
He is a young man who enjoys running. He is curious, selfconscious, and introspective. Arthur is surprised to encounter another man running barechested on a hot day. His curiosity gets the better of him as he tries to strike up a conversation with this stranger, whose name is Jax. Arthur struggles with his attraction to Jax and is intrigued by their physical difference,as he is less toned compared to the other man.
Jax
He is a muscular man with a charming smile. He is confident, friendly, and approachable. Jax encounters Arthur while running barechested on a warm day. He engages in casual conversation, sharing his route and asking about Arthur's run. Despite their physical difference,Jax shows no judgment towards Arthur, making him feel more at ease. His attractiveness and easygoing nature intrigue Arthur, and they continue to run together, enjoying each other's company.
I was running along, not really paying attention to anything, when I rounded a corner and saw another guy running towards me.
At first, I thought it was just a regular guy, but then I realized he had no shirt on.
It wasn’t that hot out, but maybe he was just really into working out because his chest was super muscular.
I couldn’t stop staring as he got closer and closer.
He looked at me curiously, like he was wondering why I was staring.
I couldn’t help but wonder what his story was.
Was he running shirtless because of the heat?
It wasn’t that hot out though, so maybe he just liked showing off his body.
I didn’t think that he was though because his face didn’t seem that way at all.
He looked friendly and approachable.
"Hey," I said as we neared each other.
He looked at me like he was surprised by my talking to him, but then a smile spread across his face.
"Hey."
"Nice day for a run," I said.
"Yeah."He seemed to stop himself from saying more, like he wasn’t sure if he should talk to me or not.
I definitely wanted him to talk to me.
I wanted to know more about him and get a better look at his body.
"It’s Jax, right?"
I slow my pace down, not sure if I should be saying that.
I don’t want to come on too strong or make him think I’m crazy.
He slows his pace too and falls into step beside me.
I can hear his breathing, but it’s steady like he’s not even winded from the run he was just doing.
His chest is sweaty and shiny, and I can see the muscles moving underneath as he runs.
"Yeah."He looks over at me, a hint of a smile on his face.
"How did you know that?"
"I…"
I wasn’t sure what to say.
I didn’t want to tell him that I had been stalking him, so I went with something else instead.
"I’ve seen you running around this route before. I thought you looked familiar."
He nods, seeming to accept that excuse.
But there’s a look in his eyes like he doesn’t believe me.
Like he knows exactly why I know his name. "Nice to meet you then," he says after a minute.
"You too," I say.
We continue jogging side by side for a few minutes without speaking.
I’m not sure what to say to break the silence, but it doesn’t feel awkward at all.
It feels comfortable, like we’ve been friends for a long time and don’t need to talk every second.
"So," Jax says after a while, "what’s your name?"
"Arthur," I say, watching as his lips form the word when he repeats it back to me.
"Arthur."
"Yeah."
"Nice to meet you, Arthur," he says again, smiling at me.
"Want to finish the route with me?"
"Sure."
We maintain a steady pace along the trail, our footsteps falling into sync.
Jax points out a shortcut through the park that leads to his favorite running spot - a quiet stretch along the river.
I follow his lead, watching as his back muscles flex with each stride.
The morning sun reflects off his skin, making me grateful for my sunglasses.
After clearing the park, Jax slows down and wipes his forehead with the back of his hand.
"There's this great smoothie place around the corner," he says, gesturing toward a side street.
"I always stop there after my run. Want to join?"
I nod, knowing this was the start of something unexpected.
