I touched an alien.
I never thought I would take the leap and touch an extraterrestrial being.
But here I was, in the middle of an unknown forest, on an alien planet, touching an alien.
As silent tears flowed from my eyes onto the forest floor, a torrent of emotion surged through my body.
It was the most human-like feeling I’d experienced in years.
A gentle finger ran along my jawline, tilting my face up.
Eyes filled with compassion looked back at me.
So much emotion swirled behind his eyes that it nearly suffocated me.
In that moment, I felt like he had looked into the very heart of me.
The gentle touch sparked a fire within me.
It had been so long since I’d felt the warmth of another person’s touch that I had forgotten what it felt like, and it ignited a deep ache within me.
I wanted to be touched.
I needed to be touched.
My eyes locked onto his as we stood in the dim lighting of the forest.
I could feel his warm breath as it played along my skin, sending shivers down my spine.
The gentle fingers ran through my hair, and as they did, it seemed to calm my nerves.
I took a step closer to him, and he didn’t back away.
He stood towering over me, but his large frame didn’t intimidate me.
He was so tall that I had to look up at him, but I couldn’t tear my eyes from his.
The forest seemed to grow quieter as we stood there.
The wind died down, the birds stopped singing, and even the rustling of the leaves seemed to stop.
The only thing I could focus on was the alien standing in front of me.
"What is your name?"
I asked in a whisper.
His expression changed ever so subtly.
The set of his jaw tightened slightly, and the lines around his eyes deepened, but he didn’t respond.
I knew he couldn’t understand me, but I needed to know the answer.
His hand moved from stroking my hair to cupping my face.
His thumb brushed a stray tear from my cheek, and I felt my body relax into his touch.
His other hand settled on my shoulder, steadying me as I swayed slightly. The hand on my shoulder squeezed ever so gently, and it was enough to remind me that I was still in the forest with an alien who didn’t speak my language.
I reached up and placed my fingers on his chest, tracing the markings there.
I wanted answers.
I wanted to know where he came from and how he got here.
Most importantly, I wanted to know why he was here.
His eyes followed the movement of my fingers as they danced along his markings, but they never left mine for long.
My fingers trembled as they moved along his markings, tracing each line and curve.
Each marking seemed to tell a story that I couldn’t decipher.
His chest was smooth and solid beneath my touch, but the markings that covered it were raised.
They felt slightly rough under my fingers.
He remained perfectly still as I explored him.
The only sign of life from him was his chest rising and falling with his steady breaths.
The forest seemed to be holding its breath with me, but then I realized the silence wasn’t just my imagination.
The birds had stopped singing, the wind had stopped rustling the leaves, and the sound of the water trickling through the stream had stopped.
The only sound left was the beat of the alien’s heart pounding in his chest.
It pulsed beneath my fingers in a rhythm different from a human heartbeat.
It was faster than any heartbeat I’d ever felt before, and it seemed to have more force behind it, like it could push my hand away with every beat. My hand slowly traveled up his neck until I reached his collarbone, which was slightly raised from where it sat on his sternum.
As my hand reached the collarbone, he wrapped his large hand around mine and pressed my palm flat against his chest.
I could feel the beat of his heart pulsing beneath my fingers again, but this time it was stronger.
He lifted his eyes to mine, and my breath hitched in my throat.
He took a step closer to me, bending down so that our faces were closer to level with each other.
