Anna
She is Kate's supportive friend who accompanies her on a trip to Las Vegas. She is compassionate, patient, and understanding. Anna notices Kate's distress and offers her support during the flight when Kate experiences anxiety and urinary incontinence issues. Anna provides comfort and reassures Kate that everything will be alright. She knows Kate's history with trauma and is there to help her navigate through difficult moments.
Lana
She is a passenger sitting nearby during the flight from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. She is observant, empathetic, and considerate. Lana notices Kate's distress during the turbulent flight and offers her a bottle of water to help alleviate her discomfort. Her act of kindness provides some relief for Kate during a challenging moment. Lana’s presence reminds Kate that there are still good people around who care.
I had been holding it in for hours.
The drive to the airport took longer than expected, and I really had to go when I got there.
But the line for security was so long that I didn’t want to leave my spot.
By the time I made it through, I was practically dancing like that guy in those commercials for bladder control medication.
I thought for sure that I would wet my pants before I made it to the gate.
Luckily, the bathroom was right outside the door.
I thought about going in, but I was afraid of missing my boarding call.
So I held it and ran to the gate.
When I got there, the attendant told me that they had already started boarding.
I hurried down the narrow aisle, scanning the overhead signs for the bathroom.
My bladder felt like it was going to burst with every step.
There were three people ahead of me, shuffling along with their carry-on bags and finding their seats.
I saw the lavatory sign and my heart leaped.
But then I saw the red "occupied" indicator glowing.
I groaned in frustration.
A flight attendant spotted me and came over to me.
"Can I help you?"
"I need to use the bathroom," I said, holding up my boarding pass.
She glanced at it and pointed to my seat.
"You’re in 14C. Why don’t you take your seat and we’ll be taking off in just a minute."
"But I really have to go," I pleaded with her.
"I’m sorry, but you’ll have to sit down. We’re taking off immediately."
I sighed and walked to my seat.
Anna was sitting in 14B, and she looked up at me with a smile.
"Hi," she said.
"Hi," I replied, trying not to sound irritated. I squeezed past her into my window seat and sat down, crossing my legs tightly.
I squirmed in my seat, pressing my thighs together as the plane began to taxi.
Anna looked at me and whispered, "Just hang in there."
The flight attendant’s voice crackled over the intercom, reviewing the safety procedures that I couldn’t focus on.
My bladder throbbed painfully as we accelerated down the runway, pushing me back into my seat.
I gripped the armrests and tried to distract myself by counting the seconds until we were airborne.
But every bump on the tarmac sent waves of pressure through my lower abdomen.
Finally, we lifted off and I clenched every muscle in my body.
The seatbelt sign glowed mockingly above me as we climbed higher and higher.
Anna leaned closer, her voice barely audible over the hum of the engines.
"Did you hear about the pilot?" she asked, her eyes wide with a mix of excitement and concern.
I shook my head, trying to focus on anything but my predicament. "What about him?"
