I was born over 800 years ago.
At the beginning of the 13th century, to be more precise.
My name is Johnny, but everyone calls me John.
I am a Seelie fae, and I don’t look a day older than thirty-five.
I’ve seen empires rise and fall, changed my wardrobe numerous times, learned new languages as they evolved, and witnessed history being written.
I even saw the birth of a new world, far, far away from my home and my court.
But never in my long life have I felt as alive, as full of wonder and hope for the future as I do now, as I am standing in front of this modern lady fae with bright pink hair and an energy that reminds me so much of… her.
It’s been centuries since I last felt that spark.
Over three hundred years since I lost her, my love, my everything.
The memories have never left me.
They were all I had to hold onto after she was gone.
But I thought I would never feel that spark again.
Not in this lifetime.
Not in any other lifetime.
I didn’t even know if I believed in that anymore.
Reincarnation.
Soulmates.
Love at first sight.
All those things sounded so romantic, so intriguing when I was young and full of life.

But now, as I approach her slowly, watching how she moves through the crowd with a grace that is not of this world, I know that my suspicions are correct.
Her pink hair glows under the neon lights of the club.
She stumbles over her own feet and almost falls.
She looks lost in a sea of humans, and I know that she must be one of us.
The only question is, why doesn’t she know it?
I catch her by the arm before she can fall.
The second my skin touches hers, I feel the tingle of fae energy beneath her flesh.
It’s faint, but it’s there.
She turns to me and looks up into my eyes.
They widen with recognition, but not because she knows me.

Because she recognizes what I am. "You’re one of us," I say softly, leaning close to her ear so that she can hear me over the loud music pulsing through the speakers.
"Let me show you."
I hold out my hand to her.
It’s up to her to decide what happens next.
She stares at my outstretched hand for what feels like an eternity.
The pink of her hair glows under the neon lights of the club.
The bass thumps around us, vibrating through my chest and making it hard to breathe.
The humans dance and drink and laugh, completely oblivious to the silent exchange between us.
Her fingers twitch, and I notice that she has a tattoo on her wrist.
It’s a vine of flowers that wraps around her arm, disappearing under the sleeve of her shirt.
A modern take on the ancient fae markings that we used to wear proudly.
She looks toward the emergency exit, then back at me.
I can see her weighing her options, wondering if she should take my hand or run from me as fast as she can.
I keep my grip on her arm gentle but firm.

I don’t want her to feel trapped, but I also don’t want her to get away from me. I can feel her pulse quickening beneath my fingertips, and I know that she is feeling it too—the spark between us that is growing stronger by the second.
"Why do I feel like I've known you forever?" she asks, her voice barely audible over the music.
"Because you have," I reply, my eyes searching hers for any sign of recognition.
"But how is that possible?" she whispers, a mixture of fear and curiosity in her gaze.
The music fades to background noise as I study her face in the dim light of the club.
Her pink hair glows under the neon signs, reminding me of fairy lights in ancient forests.
When I move to brush back a strand of her hair, she doesn't pull away.
Instead, she leans slightly into my touch, her eyes widening as our skin connects.
It's a simple gesture, but it feels like centuries of meaning are packed into that one moment.
Around us, humans continue dancing and drinking, completely unaware of the private world we've created in the midst of the bustling club.
Sarah's breath catches as my fingers trace the delicate point of her ear—a trait that humans can't see but is unmistakable to those of us who know what to look for.
"Is this why I've always felt out of place?" she asks, her voice trembling slightly.
"Yes," I nod, "you've been living among humans, but your soul remembers another life."
"So, you're saying I'm... like you?" she questions, a flicker of hope mingling with uncertainty in her eyes.
