I turned to look at her, and I could see the concern in her eyes.
"We’ll find them," I said, trying to sound confident.
"Michael’s gadgets will lead us right to their front door. And then we can bust in there and get our friend out before they even know what hit them."
She nodded, but she still looked uneasy.
Like me, she knew that this wasn’t going to be easy.
The cultists were dangerous people who didn’t take kindly to strangers wandering around in their turf.
If they found us first…
I shuddered at the thought, trying not to think about what might happen if we failed on this mission.
We had been walking for hours, and I was beginning to wonder if we would ever reach the compound.
It was rumored to be hidden somewhere in these woods, but so far we hadn’t seen any signs of it.
If we didn’t find it soon, it would be too late.
I could feel the panic building inside of me as I thought about what might be happening to our friend right at this very moment.
We had to get to her before it was too late.
"Are you sure we’re going in the right direction?" Sarah asked for what felt like the hundredth time.
We were walking in a straight line, but there was no path to guide us here in the forest.
If we took one wrong turn, we would be lost for hours trying to get back on track.
"We’ll get there," I told her, hoping that I sounded more confident than I felt.
Michael’s gadgets were supposed to lead us directly to the compound, but so far we hadn’t seen any signs of it.
