Chapter One: A Vision of the Future CLOUD The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the land as it began its descent for the night. The air was thick with the smell of wildflowers, and I couldn’t help but breathe in deeply, allowing the scent to fill my senses. It had been too long since I had been able to stop and enjoy the beauty that surrounded me. I had been on the road for days now. Traveling from one village to another. Always moving. Never staying in one place for too long. But that was my life. A life of solitude. A life of pain. But I had long since accepted my fate. I took another deep breath as I pulled myself up onto a large rock, settling in for the night. I was a skilled warrior, and I knew how to take care of myself. And tonight, like every night, would be no different. I reached into my bag and pulled out a small piece of bread, tearing it into pieces and tossing them into the air. Within moments, they were gone, devoured by the birds that had come to keep me company. Sighing, I leaned back against the rock and closed my eyes, letting the silence of the evening wash over me. But no matter how hard I tried to relax, I couldn’t. I was always on edge. Always waiting for the next fight to come my way. But as the minutes passed, it became clear that tonight was different. Tonight was going to be a quiet night. A peaceful night. And as I lay there, staring up at the stars, I couldn’t help but let my mind drift to another time. Another place. A time when my life had been filled with more than just pain and solitude. A time when I had been happy. SEPHIROTH I stood at the edge of the forest, looking out over the vast landscape before me. The sun was setting on the horizon, casting a warm glow over everything it touched. It was beautiful. Breathtaking. And it reminded me of why I had chosen this place to settle down. It was quiet. Peaceful. A place where I could be alone with my thoughts. I had spent my entire life fighting. Killing. Destroying everything that stood in my way. And now that it was all over, I didn’t know what to do with myself. I had thought that by killing the last remaining Cetra, I would finally be able to find peace. That by destroying her, I would be able to destroy the memories that haunted me every single day. But I had been wrong. I could still hear her voice in my head. Could still feel her presence all around me. And no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t escape her. But maybe this was my punishment.

Chapter One: A Vision of the Future
CLOUD
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the land as it began its descent for the night.
SEPHIROTH
I stood at the edge of the forest, looking out over the vast landscape before me.
Maybe I was meant to suffer for all of eternity for the things that I had done. For the lives that I had taken. For the destruction that I had caused. Maybe I would never be able to find peace, and maybe that was what I deserved.
Sighing, I turned away from the setting sun and made my way back to the little hut that I now called home. It wasn’t much, but it was quiet. Peaceful. And it was far enough away from everything that I could be alone with my thoughts. With my memories. With my guilt. I didn’t deserve anything more than this, and I knew it.
My eyes widened in surprise as I saw a figure darting out of the trees, heading straight for me. Before I could react, a small child crashed into me, wrapping her arms around my legs as she let out an excited squeal.
“Daddy! You’re home!” she cried out, looking up at me with big, bright eyes.
I reached down and picked her up, holding her close as I looked into her eyes. She was beautiful. Absolutely perfect in every way. And she had been the only thing that had been able to keep me grounded in the last few years.
“Daddy missed you,” I said softly, kissing her on the forehead.
“I missed you too,” she replied, hugging me tightly.
I smiled as I carried her back to the little house that I shared with her mother. It was small, but it was home. And even though I didn’t deserve her, I was grateful for her every single day.
“How are you feeling?” I asked softly as we entered the house.
“Better,” she replied with a smile, sitting down at the table and helping herself to some food.
Her pregnancy had not been easy, and she had been bedridden for most of it, but she had finally given birth to a healthy baby girl just a few days ago, and both mother and daughter were doing well.
“She needs a name,” she said suddenly, looking up at me with a small smile.
“She does,” I agreed quietly, returning her smile with one of my own.
“We’ve already decided on a name for if it’s a boy,” she said softly, reaching out to take my hand in hers. “But we never talked about what we would do if it’s a girl.”
I nodded slowly. “Do you have any ideas?”
She shrugged slightly. “It doesn’t matter what you think. She’s mine too, you know.”
I chuckled softly at that. “Of course… You’re right.” My mind went blank for a moment as I tried to think of something that would be worthy of our daughter. “What about Nerys? It means ‘lady’ in Elvish.”
