Math request to Happy Louise
It was very early in the morning when I received a message from Math Requester.
He had sent me a photo of a math problem he had trouble solving.
I yawned and stretched my arms out before replying to his message.
I was very excited to receive a math request from him, even though it was already past 6:00 a.m.
He rarely sent messages to anyone, so I felt quite special that he chose to ask me for help.
I quickly got out of bed and opened the photo he sent me.
As I looked at the photo, I couldn’t help but smile.
The question was not too difficult and I could see why he was stuck on it.
I immediately replied, “Good morning! This question is very interesting.
Let me try to solve it.”
Math Requester was a very shy student who rarely spoke or interacted with other students in our school.
He was always on his own, reading books, or doing his math homework.
The reason I knew him was because he sat in front of me in class, and one day I noticed that he was struggling with his math homework.
I approached him and asked if he needed help.
He was surprised that I talked to him, but he nodded his head.
I asked him to show me his math problems, and he did so without hesitation.
After looking at his questions, I realized that they were quite easy for my standards, so I helped him solve them one by one.
Since then, we became friends, but we didn’t talk too much because he’s an introverted person who preferred to keep things to himself.
Every time he needed homework assistance, he would send me a message and ask me for help.
I usually replied to his messages within 5 minutes, although sometimes I responded to him instantly since my phone was always beside me.
If I was busy with something else and couldn’t reply right away, I would apologize for my tardiness when I did eventually get around to replying.
When I saw the message from Math Requester this morning, I knew that he had trouble with the question again.
“Good morning!” I replied to his message and said, “This question is quite interesting.
Let me try to solve it.”
Over the last two years, Math Requester learned a lot from my math explanations and became very good at solving math problems on his own.
With occasional guidance from me, he slowly started to enjoy math more and more as the days went by.
I was happy to see his progress and even more excited to know that we were about to explore a new math problem together.
I clicked on the photo of the math question and started to work on it.
I was a bit sleepy at first because my brain wasn’t fully awake yet, but once I began to focus on the numbers and equations on my computer screen, my eyes were wide open.
This question was quite difficult and very interesting!
It was not a typical type of question; it was a concept question involving an interesting mathematical theory that I had never encountered before.
