I was born in the year 2435 A.D.
, on Neo-Terra.
The Interstellar Age was already behind us, but humanity’s thirst for exploration only grew stronger.
And so mankind colonized new worlds, spread far and wide across the galaxy.
Neo-Terra was one of these planets, and soon it became the new center of human civilization.
By the time I was born, it had already been heavily terraformed, its landscape teeming with life.
It was a beautiful place, covered in lush forests and crystal-clear lakes.
But that was before we humans got our hands on it.
Now, its natural beauty is all but gone, its ecosystem destroyed by centuries of over-exploitation.
And we’re next if we don’t do something about it soon.
I grew up in New Madrid, the bustling capital city of Neo-Terra.
It used to be a magnificent place, a shining example of human ingenuity and progress.
But things have changed since then.
The city has been falling apart for years now, crumbling into ruin as its resources are slowly depleted.
And there’s no end in sight either, at least not as long as the bigwigs keep lining their pockets with our tax money instead of investing it back into our planet.
My parents tried to shield me from all that growing up, but there’s only so much you can hide from a curious child.
I saw how hard they had to work to make ends meet, how they struggled to put food on our table and clothes on our backs.
My father was a miner, one of the lucky ones who still had a job in that field.
We were told that our planet’s resources were nearly exhausted, that there weren’t enough to go around anymore.
But that didn’t seem to stop the big corporations from taking more than their fair share and making a killing off it in other worlds.
My mother worked as a nurse at one of the few remaining hospitals in the city.
It wasn’t a well-paying job by any means, but at least it helped us put food on the table and clothes on our backs.
My parents did their best to shield me from all that growing up, but I could tell it weighed heavily on their shoulders.
They tried to make up for it by showering me and my siblings with love and care.
And for a while, it worked.
But as I got older, I began to realize that things weren’t as rosy as they’d made them out to be.
I saw how people around us were struggling to get by, how they lived in poverty while the lucky few lived in luxury.
I realized that something was very wrong with our society and that we couldn’t simply sit by and do nothing about it.
The interplanetary government has been run by powerful corporations for centuries now.
They’re the ones who pull all the strings and make all the important decisions.
And yet they continue to exploit us for profit.
They don’t care about us or our planet.
