I am Lin Xuan, a young scholar of Chinese descent from the United States.
I have always been passionate about history and the study of human development.
While my colleagues are dedicated to exploring the mysteries of ancient civilizations, I am more interested in unraveling the essence of humanity.
What makes a person worthy?
These questions have driven me to travel around the world, visiting various historical sites in search of answers.
One day, I heard about the Naxi Kingdom, also known as the Daughter of the East, a mysterious land shrouded in legend.
Intrigued by the stories surrounding the white sand murals and Gemu Peak, I decided to embark on a journey to discover its secrets.
Upon my arrival, I was immediately captivated by the unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures and the stunning scenery.
As I ventured further into this ancient kingdom, I was joined by two companions: a delicate young man and a mysterious figure cloaked in black.
Together, we set out to explore the hidden treasures of this land.
I've visited many countries over the years, and have seen their historical culture up close.
China is no exception.
I am particularly fascinated by ancient Chinese civilization, which has left behind a wealth of cultural relics and ancient texts that provide valuable research materials for scholars like me.
In addition to the study of historical texts, some colleagues are also dedicated to exploring mysterious ancient civilizations that have disappeared without a trace.
They are devoted to solving these mysteries and revealing their secrets hidden for thousands of years.
However, my research interest is not on how much knowledge can be gained or how much can be solved, but on what it means for a person to be worthy.
I have always wanted to understand this question more profoundly.
The question of human worthiness has been my academic interest for many years.
Throughout my life, I have traveled to countless historical sites around the world, but among them, my trip to China was truly eye-opening.
The ancient Chinese civilization has a long history and a rich cultural heritage.
It is the cradle of human civilization and has had a profound influence on the development of human history.
Among the various ancient civilizations in China, the Naxi Kingdom is particularly fascinating with its unique culture that blends Eastern and Western traditions together.
Moreover, it is known as the Daughter of the East and is shrouded in legends and mysteries that have intrigued me for many years.
As I stepped into this ancient kingdom, I couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation.
I knew that the white sand murals and Gemu Peak were waiting for me to unlock their secrets and reveal the hidden truths behind them.
What makes the Naxi Kingdom unique is its blend of Eastern and Western cultures - it is both the maternal and paternal civilization at once.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
The Mosuo people are known for their maternal civilization - they do not practice marriage, and men live in the women's home where they take care of their offspring.
In contrast, the Naxi people practice paternal civilization - they believe in monogamy and are patrilineal in descent.
They are very different from each other - one side practices marriage while the other does not; one side is patrilineal while the other is matrilineal; one side loves singing and dancing while the other does not; and so on.
These profound differences have always been fascinating to me - it is like watching two civilizations evolve side by side in the same territory.
After visiting many places in the Naxi Kingdom, I finally arrived at Lugu Lake with my two companions.
We first went to explore the Tea Horse Road before continuing our way towards the Walking Wedding Bridge.
Walking on the bridge, I could not help but be amazed by its beautiful scenery.
Walking Wedding Bridge was originally called Mabang Bridge (Horse Back Bridge) by Mosuo people - it was built over 300 years ago during the Qing Dynasty by Han people from Yunnan Province.
It was later renamed Walking Wedding Bridge by tourists because it looks like a loving couple walking hand in hand when viewed from afar.
We arrived at Lanyue Valley when the sun was about to set - the entire valley was shrouded in shadows and only a few rays of sunlight were able to break through the thick canopy of trees above to light up the area.
As we descended into the valley, I suddenly saw countless fireflies illuminating the entire valley like a sea of stars - it was truly an amazing sight!
I could not help but exclaim out loud: "Wow!This is so beautiful!"
To my surprise, my exclamation seemed to have startled the fireflies that they all flew up into the sky, forming a huge glowing ball of light above us - it was truly an incredible sight!
Fireflies are a common sight in many parts of the world, but I have never seen so many fireflies gathered together in one place before!
I couldn't help but wonder if my companions had also seen something similar before, so I turned around to ask them what they thought of the sight - but they were nowhere to be found!
I was very puzzled by their sudden disappearance as they had been walking with me just moments earlier on the same road - how could they have vanished into thin air just like that?
It was then that I suddenly recalled the strange detail they had mentioned before: "If you feel lonely, just remember that I'm always with you!"
I could not help but wonder if they had left me because I had said that I felt lonely earlier on the road.
I stood there in silence for a long time, gazing up at the glowing ball of light in the sky.
I knew that the place I was looking for was right up ahead - it was the place where I would finally be able to find all the answers I sought.
As I continued my journey further into the valley, I couldn't help but think about what my companions had said to me before: "The Naxi Kingdom is not just a place for you to visit, it is also a place for you to explore your own past!"
I didn't understand what they meant at first, but after visiting many places in the Naxi Kingdom, I finally realized what they were trying to tell me.
The earth is a very big place, and there are many different cultures in different parts of the world.
Each culture is unique and has its own way of life.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
Some cultures have gone through many changes over the course of history, while others have remained largely unchanged for thousands of years.
I believe that the Naxi Kingdom was one of those places where the culture has remained relatively unchanged for thousands of years.
I also believe that the Naxi Kingdom was the place where the ancient Chinese civilization first began.
So, if I wanted to find out more about my own past and my own ancestors, then I needed to come here.
But before I could find those answers, I needed to find out more about the Naxi Kingdom itself.
I needed to explore the entire kingdom and see what secrets it held.
And so, I set out on my journey with a sense of excitement and anticipation.
I knew that it would not be an easy journey, but I was determined to see it through.
The first thing I did was climb up Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which was a huge mountain located at the center of the kingdom.
The mountain was named after a huge dragon that stretched across the sky, and its body was covered with white snow all year round, which made it look like the mountain was made entirely of jade.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain was located near the border of the Mosuo and Naxi tribes.
It was a very important place for both tribes, as they believed that it was the place where the first king of the Naxi Kingdom was buried.
Climbing up the mountain was not an easy task, as the mountain was very tall and steep.
The mountain was so tall that it reached up to the clouds, and the top of the mountain was always hidden from view.
In fact, the mountain was so tall that no one had ever managed to reach the top before!
But despite that fact, I was determined to give it a try.
I knew that it would be a very difficult journey, but I was not afraid.
I had been on many difficult journeys before, and I had always managed to make it through them alive.
So, I set out on my journey with my two companions by my side.
The three of us climbed up the mountain together, making our way through the dense forests and winding paths until we finally reached the top.
As we climbed higher and higher up the mountain, the scenery around us began to change.
The dense forests were replaced by barren rocks, and the winding paths were replaced by steep cliffs.
And as we continued to climb higher and higher, the temperature began to drop, and we were soon surrounded by snowflakes that danced around us like feathers in the wind.
Finally, after climbing for what seemed like an eternity, we finally reached the top of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
I looked around and saw that we were surrounded by clouds on all sides, and the only thing that could be seen was the peak of another mountain in the distance.
The mountain was so tall that it reached up to the clouds, and it looked like a huge dragon lying across the sky.
I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe as I looked at the mountain in front of me - it was truly an amazing sight!
But just as I was about to take a step forward and continue my journey further into the kingdom, a huge shadow suddenly appeared on the ground next to me.
I looked up and saw that there was a huge beast with wings flying above my head, its body covered in black scales that shone like obsidian in the sunlight.
The huge beast was staring straight at me with its blood-red eyes, and its gaze sent chills down my spine.
At that moment, I felt as if every single cell in my body was screaming at me to run away as far as I could.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
But before I could do anything, the huge beast suddenly opened its mouth and let out a deafening roar that echoed throughout the entire mountain, shaking the ground beneath me and making me feel as if the entire world was about to collapse.
When the roar finally faded away, the huge beast flapped its wings and flew away into the distance, disappearing from sight in the blink of an eye.
I was left standing there in shock, staring blankly at the sky as if I had been struck by lightning.
And as I stood there, frozen to the spot, the two companions by my side suddenly grabbed me by the arms and pulled me away, shouting at me to run as fast as I could and not to look back no matter what happened.
I wanted to ask them what was going on, but they refused to tell me anything and only kept shouting at me to run faster and not to stop until we were far away from the mountain.
So, without any other choice, I did as they told me and ran away as fast as I could, even though I had no idea what was going on or what had happened back there on the mountain.
All I knew was that something bad had happened, and that we needed to get away from there as soon as possible before it was too late.
After running for what seemed like an eternity, we finally arrived at the foot of the mountain, where we were greeted by a breathtaking sight that left us all gasping for breath.
The entire kingdom lay before us like a huge painting that stretched across the horizon, with the majestic Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the background and a huge lake in the foreground that reflected the snow-capped peaks like a mirror, creating a perfect image that looked almost too beautiful to be real.
The lake was called Lugu Lake, and it was located in the middle of the kingdom, surrounded by lush green forests and snow-covered mountains that stretched as far as the eye could see.
The lake was so clear that you could see all the way down to the bottom, where schools of fish could be seen swimming around in the crystal clear water, their scales glinting in the sunlight like diamonds.
Along the shores of the lake, there were many small villages scattered around, where people lived a simple and peaceful life in harmony with nature.
And on the other side of the lake, there was a huge valley called Lanyue Valley, where the Mosuo tribe lived.
The valley was covered in a thick layer of green grass that swayed gently in the wind like waves on the ocean, and it was surrounded on all sides by high mountains that kept the valley hidden from view and protected it from the outside world.
There were many small rivers flowing through the valley, and they all flowed into the lake, where they joined together to form a huge river that flowed all the way out of the kingdom and into the ocean.
All in all, the entire kingdom was a beautiful and serene place that was filled with natural wonders and breathtaking scenery.
But despite its beauty and tranquility, there was something strange about the place that made me feel a little uneasy.
It was as if there was something watching us from the shadows, hidden from view and waiting for the right moment to strike.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
As we walked along the shores of the lake, I noticed that there were many small boats floating on the water that were made out of logs and had colorful sails that fluttered in the wind like butterflies.
There were many people standing on the shore who were dressed in traditional Mosuo clothing and looked at us with curiosity in their eyes.
Some of them were men who wore simple clothing made out of animal skins and carried bows and quivers of arrows on their backs, while others were women who wore long dresses made out of colorful fabrics and had their hair tied up into two buns on top of their heads.
But despite their differences in appearance and clothing, they all had one thing in common: they were all beautiful and strong-willed people who lived a simple and peaceful life in harmony with nature.
As we walked along the shore of the lake, I noticed that there were many small villages scattered around where people lived in small huts made out of wood and thatch.
Some of the huts had smoke rising out of their chimneys, while others had colorful flowers growing around them that filled the air with their sweet fragrance.
It was a beautiful and peaceful place that seemed almost too perfect to be real, but it was also a place that was filled with mystery and wonder.
The Mosuo tribe was a matriarchal society that had preserved its ancient culture for thousands of years while the rest of the world had changed around them.
They had a unique way of life that was based on walking marriages, where men and women were free to choose their own partners and live together without the need for marriage or divorce.
And they also had a unique way of raising their children that was based on matrilineal descent, where children took their mother's last name and were raised by their mother's family.
As we continued walking along the shore of the lake, I noticed that there were many small boats floating on the water that were made out of logs and had colorful sails that fluttered in the wind like butterflies.
There were many people standing on the boats who were dressed in traditional Mosuo clothing and were busy catching fish with nets or fishing poles.
And there were also many children swimming in the lake who were playing with each other and having fun.
It was a beautiful scene that reminded me of my childhood when I used to play by the river with my friends.
I smiled as I watched the children playing in the water and felt a sense of nostalgia wash over me.
It had been a long time since I had seen such an innocent and carefree sight, and it made me realize that no matter how advanced and modern the world became or how far we progressed as a species, there were some things that would never change.
As we continued walking along the shore of the lake, I noticed that there were many families sitting on the ground who were eating and drinking and having a good time.
Some of them were eating roasted fish that had been caught from the lake and cooked over an open fire, while others were drinking rice wine that had been brewed from rice and barley and aged for several years.
There were many young men and women sitting together who were talking and laughing and flirting with each other, while there were also many elderly people sitting in circles who were playing cards and smoking pipes.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
They seemed to be having a good time enjoying each other's company and the beautiful weather, and it made me realize that life was simple and uncomplicated here in the Naxi Kingdom.
As we walked along the shore of the lake, I noticed that there were many large trees growing by the water that had thick leaves and gnarled roots.
The trees were so tall that they seemed to touch the sky and cast large shadows on the ground that kept us cool as we walked in the hot sun.
I could see that there were many fruits growing on the trees that looked like grapes and apples and oranges, as well as many flowers blooming on the branches that were white and pink and purple.
And I could also see that there were many birds flying around in the trees that were chirping and singing beautiful songs that sounded like wind chimes in the breeze.
It was a beautiful place that seemed almost too perfect to be real, but it was also a place that was filled with mystery and wonder.
And as we continued walking along the shore of the lake, I realized that I could see a large mountain in the distance that was surrounded by snow-capped peaks and covered in lush green forests.
The mountain looked very beautiful and majestic, and I could see that there was a large waterfall cascading down the side of the mountain that was so high that it seemed to reach the sky.
And I could also see that there were many flowers blooming on the mountainside that were red and yellow and blue, as well as many animals running around in the forest that were brown and black and white.
It was a beautiful sight that reminded me of a postcard or a painting, and I realized that we were getting closer to our destination.
As we continued walking along the shore of the lake, I noticed that the landscape had started to change and the ground had become more rugged and rocky.
I could see that there were many mountains rising up from the ground that were covered in trees and rocks, as well as many valleys and canyons cutting through the land that were filled with rivers and streams.
I could also see that there were many animals running around in the forest that were grazing on the grass and drinking from the water, as well as many birds flying around in the sky that were singing and chirping.
And I realized that we were getting closer to our destination and that we would soon be at the foot of the mountain.
We walked for a few more hours until we reached the foot of the mountain where we were met by a local guide who was riding a horse.
He greeted us warmly and told us that he would take us to our hotel, which was located at the top of the mountain.
We thanked him for his help and followed him as he led us along a narrow path that wound its way up the side of the mountain.
The path was steep and rocky, but it was also very beautiful and scenic, with many flowers blooming on the mountainside that were red and yellow and blue, as well as many trees growing on the cliffs that were covered in thick green moss.
We rode our horses up the path for several hours until we reached the top of the mountain where we were met by a group of local villagers who had come to welcome us.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
They greeted us warmly and told us that we were now standing at the top of the Tea Horse Road, which was an ancient trade route that connected China with Tibet and India.
They also told us that the road was built by the people who lived in the Naxi Kingdom, and that they used it to transport tea and horses between the two countries.
I was very impressed by the story, and I asked them if there were any other interesting places we could visit in the Naxi Kingdom.
One of the villagers told me that there was a place called the Daughter Country located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which was a beautiful and magical land populated by women.
He said that the women in the country were very beautiful and virtuous, and that the men would come from far and wide to court them and win their hearts.
I was very intrigued by the story, and I asked him if he could take me there to see it for myself.
He smiled and said that he would be happy to show me around, and so we set off on our journey to the Daughter Country.
We rode our horses down the side of the mountain and through many villages and towns until we finally arrived at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain where we saw the most beautiful sight.
I could see that there was a large waterfall cascading down the side of the mountain that was so high that it seemed to reach the sky.
And I could also see that there were many flowers blooming on the mountainside that were red and yellow and blue, as well as many animals running around in the forest that were brown and black and white.
It was a beautiful sight that reminded me of a postcard or a painting, and I realized that we were getting closer to our destination.
We walked for a few more hours until we reached our destination, which was a small village located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain.
The village was very beautiful and scenic, with many flowers blooming on the mountainside that were red and yellow and blue, as well as many trees growing on the cliffs that were covered in thick green moss.
We rode our horses up the path for several hours until we reached our destination, which was a small village located at the top of Gemu Peak.
The village was very beautiful and scenic, with many flowers blooming on the mountainside that were red and yellow and blue, as well as many trees growing on the cliffs that were covered in thick green moss.
I asked them if there were any other interesting places we could visit in the Naxi Kingdom.
One of the villagers told me that there was a place called Lanyue Valley located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, which was a beautiful and magical valley where many deities and ghosts used to live.
He said that the valley was very mysterious and dangerous, with many caves and cliffs that were filled with dangerous creatures.
I was very intrigued by the story, and I asked him if he could take me there to see it for myself.
He smiled and said that he would be happy to show me around, and so we set off on our journey to Lanyue Valley.
We rode our horses down the side of the mountain and through many villages and towns until we finally arrived at Lugu Lake where we stopped to rest.
I looked around and I could see that there were many animals running around in the forest, as well as many birds flying around in the sky.
I also noticed that there were many fishermen standing at the edge of the lake who were fishing with nets and traps, as well as many villagers who had come to fetch water from the lake to drink and cook with.
I asked them if I could try some of the water from the lake, and they told me that I could.
I walked over to a nearby well where I filled my cup with water from the lake, then I took a sip of it and I realized how clean and clear it was.
Secrets of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain
It was very refreshing and delicious, and I was very surprised because I had never tasted water like this before in my life.
I asked them what the name of the lake was, and they told me that it was called Lugu Lake which was one of the most beautiful and cleanest lakes in all of China.
They said that the lake was very famous for its clear and pure water, as well as for its beautiful scenery and rich history and culture, which attracted many tourists from all over the world every year to come and visit it and see its beauty for themselves.
After I finished drinking the water, I looked around and I could see many wooden boats floating on the surface of the lake, as well as many people swimming and fishing in the lake, and I realized how big and beautiful it was, just like the sea.
I asked them if there were any other interesting places we could visit in the Naxi Kingdom, and they told me that there was a place called Walking Wedding Bridge located at the north end of Lugu Lake where many Mosuo people came to get married every year, and they held a traditional wedding ceremony there called "walking marriage".
There was a local guide who heard us talking and he came over to introduce himself to us, and he told us that he would be happy to show us around Walking Wedding Bridge if we wanted to go there, so we said yes please.
We walked along the shore of Lugu Lake for an hour until we reached Walking Wedding Bridge where we saw many people crossing the bridge back and forth, as well as many wooden boats floating on the surface of the lake, and I realized how big and long it was, just like a rainbow.
The local guide told us that Walking Wedding Bridge was built by Mosuo people over 200 years ago, and it was one of the most famous landmarks in all of Lugu Lake.
He said that the bridge was built with stone beams and wooden planks which were connected together with iron chains, and it was very strong and stable like a dragon, which was able to support many people standing or walking on it at the same time without falling apart or collapsing into the water.
He also said that the bridge was built with a special design and structure that allowed it to move and sway back and forth with the wind and waves, which made it a very unique and interesting attraction for tourists to come and see.
We walked across the bridge and I could feel the bridge moving and shaking beneath my feet, which made me feel a little nervous and dizzy, but I managed to get across without falling into the water.
After I finished walking across the bridge, I asked the local guide if he could tell me more about the Mosuo people and their culture and traditions, and he said that he would be happy to.
He told me that the Mosuo people were a matrilineal society who lived around Lugu Lake, and they had a very unique culture and tradition that was different from many other societies in China.
