MidReal Story

Chapter 1 Whisper in the Well D, a 14-year-old boy, comes to a new town for school. His 13-year-old female cousin, Y, is living with him in the apartment. The two of them ride on their bikes and stop at the entrance of a narrow alley. There is an ancient well near the apartment, and D loves to come here and listen to the water. Y follows him to the well. She doesn’t understand why D wants to come here every night. She feels that the well looks very eerie. As they are talking, D hears someone whispering in the well. He bends over and puts his ear close to the well. Y is a little scared. She goes into the alley and calls out to D, “What are you doing? Let’s get back home!” D ignores her and continues to listen. A voice starts to speak. “You will get rich.” The voice is very soft, as if it is coming from underwater. Y looks around but doesn’t see anyone. “Who are you talking to?” she asks. “There’s someone down there,” D says. He stares at the well but doesn’t hear anything else. D frowns and gets up. He can tell that Y is scared, so he says, “Let’s go home.” “Okay,” Y says in relief. They get on their bikes and leave. The moon rises above the well and casts its light down on the dark water. The voice speaks again. “You will get rich.” The next day, D wakes up early and goes downstairs. He walks through the hallway and steps out of the building. He takes a deep breath and looks around. Everything is so unfamiliar. D is a 14-year-old boy who has just moved to a new town for school. Although he has only been here for a few days, he already likes this place. Everything is so clean and new. There is a small park near his apartment building with green grass and tall trees. The air is fresh. It’s nothing like where he used to live. The buildings were tall and dark, and there was always a bad smell in the air. D smiles and takes out his phone. He wants to take some pictures of the neighborhood and send them to his friends. There is no one on the street. It’s still too early. D walks to the entrance of the alley and looks at the well. The old bricks are covered in moss. The water in the well is green. The sky is blue, and the trees are green. Everything looks so beautiful. D looks around but doesn’t see anyone. He walks over and bends down. He puts his ear close to the well. “You will get rich.” Someone whispers in his ear. He jumps back in shock. He rubs his ear and finds that it is wet. He looks down at the well but doesn’t see anything unusual. D gets on his bike and leaves quickly. Chapter 2 The Strange Neighbor After school, D comes back home first. He sits by the window and looks outside, waiting for Y to come home. There are a few people standing near the entrance of the alley. They look at something on the ground with worried expressions. D gets up and walks over curiously. He sees an old man lying on the ground with his eyes closed. There is a pool of blood under his head. The old man looks familiar. D thinks that he is one of their neighbors who lives in the basement. He rarely comes out of his room.

My female cousin and I went home and sat together to study. I suddenly discovered that my female cousin is very beautiful. The old man opens his eyes. His gaze is empty, as if he doesn’t see anyone. The people around him are talking. “Did you call the ambulance?”“It’s coming right now.”D sees that the old man is not moving. He is a little worried. “Is he dead?”“Don’t say that. The ambulance is coming. He’ll be fine!”D looks down the alley and sees a car driving straight for him. The car suddenly stops and starts to move backward. The driver gets out of the car and looks at the ground with a pale face. He covers his mouth with his hand and says, “Oh no! I killed someone!”The ambulance arrives. The driver is still standing by the car, looking very worried. The neighbors help the old man onto the stretcher. The old man doesn’t look hurt at all. There is no blood on his head.He keeps his eyes open. His eyes are still empty, as if he can’t see anyone. The driver of the car walks over and apologizes, “Uncle Shen, I didn’t mean to hit you! You have to go to the hospital. I’ll take care of everything for you.”Uncle Shen is the name of the old man who lives in the basement. He doesn’t answer. He just stares at his neighbor with a blank expression.D stands in front of Uncle Shen and asks in a low voice, “Uncle Shen, do you know where we live?”Uncle Shen blinks. It seems that he just woke up from a dream. He looks around and sees that D is standing in front of him. After a moment of silence, Uncle Shen nods.D takes out his phone and dials a number.“Who are you calling?” Y asks in surprise.“I’m calling our landlord,” D says. “I’m telling him not to put Uncle Shen in our building.”
