Riley Ashford and Luna Carmichael are best friends, but Luna is irritated by Riley's womanizing ways. However, when Luna transfers to Stratford Academy, she and Riley are forced to see each other every day, which leads to them facing their forbidden feelings for each other.
Riley and Luna have been best friends since they were kids.
Riley has a reputation for womanizing, which is a sore spot for Luna.
They’ve been tested by Riley’s propensity to get himself into trouble and Luna’s frustration with it.
Your parents are going to kill you,” Luna said, kicking at the can on the ground in frustration.
“Your parents are going to kill you,” I mimicked in a high-pitched voice, my tone dripping with exaggerated anger.
I know, I know, but I swear it was an accident and—”
“Don’t bother,” she said, raising her hand in warning.
I held up my hands in defense.
I’m just saying that if you don’t forgive me, no one will.” I could already see the smile tugging at her lips as she tried to keep up her icy front.
She’d always done that, always been there for me when no one else would be, even when I didn’t deserve it.
“And tell me again how you ended up at a house party in the first place?”
“It was Cade’s idea.”
“You’re blaming Cade?”
“Well, I was trying to be a good friend and be his wingman.
“His wingman for what?”
“Cade doesn’t need anyone to be his wingman.”
“Which begs the question, why were you there in the first place?”
“It was Jaxson’s girlfriend’s best friend’s party.”
“And you’ve never met her before?”
“No.” I paused.
“Are you really going to keep this up?”
Luna and I had been best friends since we were little kids.
We’d both been through a lot in our lives, and somehow that had made us closer instead of tearing us apart.
Where I was a little bit of a troublemaker, she was the straight-laced good girl who followed all the rules…most of the time.
She was always there to pick up the pieces when things fell apart.
We’d even started college together at Stratford Academy almost two years ago.
But being friends with me wasn’t always easy.
Especially when I got caught up in other people’s drama or did something stupid like crash my parents’ car into a ditch on the side of the road.
And yet, she was still here.
She was still friends with me, still putting up with my bullshit, even when I did things that hurt her.
Like hooking up with some random girl at a party when she was standing five feet away.
I’d been an insufferable womanizer for most of my life, something that had caused far more problems than I could even count.
And while I knew she deserved better, she’d never given up on me.
She was the one person who’d been there for me through thick and thin.
The one person I knew would always be in my corner no matter what.
And I was grateful.
Because without her, I wasn’t sure where I’d be.
“So, what am I supposed to do about Jaxson?”
“Tell him you’re not going.”
“Are we talking about the same Jaxson?”
“Because the Jaxson I know loves a challenge.”
She narrowed her eyes at me.
I’m sick of all of your friends.”
