fat and sick man decides to get his shit together and starts working out and becoming healthy because he met somone special that changed his life
John Smith sat on the park bench.
He felt the weight of his poor health more than ever, literally and figuratively.
It was as if his body was begging him to make a change, but he just couldn’t bring himself to do it.
He had always had weight problems, leading to high blood pressure and the threat of heart disease, but in the last few years, it had gotten even worse.
John found himself panting just by walking a short distance, unable to keep up with people he used to be able to run laps around.
Something had to give, he knew that much.
He just couldn’t find the motivation to give it himself.
He shook his head as he thought about it.
He was only in his early 30s, but he felt like he was already in his 60s.
Sweat poured down his face, even though the bench was in the shade.
As John looked around, he saw a young woman jogging toward him around the pond.
She was wearing black shorts and a black tank top with neon-colored trim and shoes.
Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and as he watched her, she smiled at him.
John felt something inside him change when she smiled at him.
It was like all of the sudden, all the problems in his life disappeared.
The sweat on his forehead evaporated instantly, and for some reason it took all of his effort not to smile back at her.
Instead, he gave her a small nod of his head as she ran past him.
Her hair bobbed up and down as she jogged by, her rhythmic breathing visible even from this distance.
John watched her until she disappeared from view around the corner of the pond.
His gaze lingered there for several minutes before he realized what he was doing.
He shook his head again to clear his thoughts and stood up from the bench, feeling the weight of his body pull down on his stressed-out knees.
As he prepared to walk home, he saw flashes of light in front of his eyes.
“Man, I don’t need this.”
John sat back down on the bench, took a deep breath, and closed his eyes.
The flashes went away after a few seconds, but when he tried to stand up again, he felt dizzy.
Instead, he sat there for a few minutes, waiting for it to pass, when all of a sudden, a young woman sat down next to him.
She was holding a water bottle in one hand, and she looked like she had just finished a run.
“Are you okay?”
She asked with concern in her voice.
“What were you running from me?”
John asked with a smile.
She laughed at that.
“Not at all.
I just finished my run.
I’m Sarah Johnson.”
“John Smith,” John said with a small smile.
“You don’t have to introduce yourself if you don’t want to.
I know who you are.” She said with a warm smile.
She held out what looked like a card toward him.
“Here, I have an extra pass to my gym.
“You don’t have to give me that,” John said quickly, feeling embarrassed.
“I can’t afford to go to a gym.”
“It’s not a big deal,” Sarah said with a wave of her hand.
“I have an extra one, and I thought you might like to go.”
“You thought I might like to go?”
John asked with a confused look on his face.
“I’m sorry,” Sarah apologized quickly.
“I didn’t mean it like that.
I just meant that…you know what, never mind. What are you doing tomorrow?”
“Nothing,” John answered quickly, even though it was a lie.
Sarah raised an eyebrow at him, but when she spoke again, it wasn’t in an accusatory manner.
“Do you want to come to the gym with me tomorrow? You can use this pass.”
John found himself at a loss for words.
His first thought was that she was playing some kind of joke on him, but when he looked at her face, it didn’t look like that at all.
In fact, it seemed like she was genuinely interested in helping him.
But then what did that say about him?
That he needed help?
That there was something wrong with him?
His insecurities and fears of rejection came rushing back to him in an instant, but they all went away when he saw the genuine smile on Sarah’s face.
She really did want to help him…
…for some reason that he couldn’t figure out.
“Okay,” he agreed after a few moments.
Sarah clapped her hands together and gave him a big smile.
She opened the water bottle and handed it to him.
“You should drink this,” she said kindly.
“It will make you feel better.”
John took the bottle from her and drank deeply, finishing the entire thing off in a single gulp.
It was cold and refreshing, and it made him feel better almost immediately.
He stared at the water bottle for a moment before looking up at Sarah again and nodding his head with a smile.
“Thanks,” he said quietly.
She put her hand on his arm and squeezed gently before standing up from the bench.
“Great! Then I’ll meet you here tomorrow.I’m going to run now, but I’ll see you tomorrow!”
Before he had a chance to say anything else, Sarah turned around and began jogging again, leaving John sitting on the bench by himself, his mind reeling from the entire experience just then.
He couldn’t believe what had just happened, and he wasn’t sure what to think about it either.
But he knew that something had changed just then.
He could feel it deep down in his core, and he felt a sense of excitement bubbling up inside him, even though there was still a part of him that felt like it was too good to be true too.
But Sarah would never lie to me, he thought.
He had known Sarah for a while, and he knew that she would never lie to him, but it was hard for him to believe that someone as attractive as her would be interested in helping someone like him, a fat guy who couldn’t even run around the pond without getting short of breath and having to sit down because he felt dizzy.
As he sat on the park bench, John’s mind raced as he thought about what Sarah had said to him earlier, and he found himself feeling all sorts of different emotions as he thought about it too.
She really did want to help him, he thought again, but why?
What did she see in him that made her want to help him so much?
It didn’t matter what it was, though, because all that mattered now was whether or not he could do what Sarah wanted him to do or not, he thought.
Could he really go through with this?
Could he really go out and run around the park with her tomorrow like she said?
He wasn’t sure, and he didn’t know if he could really believe that it would work either, but he knew that he had to try anyway because he also knew that he would never forgive himself if he didn’t take advantage of this chance either, especially with someone like Sarah who clearly cared about him enough to do something like this for him too.
But he also felt nervous about it too, and he couldn’t help but feel like he had bitten off more than he could chew when he agreed to do this either.
He hadn’t done much of anything in a long time, and he was pretty out of shape right now, and he didn’t know if he could ever be able to do what Sarah said or not either, especially with how hard it had been for him to get in shape in the past too.
He had tried so many times before to lose weight and get in shape, but he could never stick with it long enough to see any real results from it, and he always seemed to gain the weight back just as quickly as he lost it too, if not even faster sometimes also.
But this time would be different though, he thought.
He knew that this time would be different because Sarah would be there to help him along the way now too, and she would make sure that he stayed on the right track this time too.
He believed that Sarah would help him do what he needed to do in order to get in shape again and stay that way this time too, so long as he believed in himself enough to do what she said also…
