Free fall gun
The sun has just set, casting hues of red and gold against the horizon.
Downtown lights are beginning to twinkle like little stars below me.
I’m about to take a stroll down memory lane…literally.
I peer over the edge of the high-rise building.
A gust of wind from below rushes up and tousles my hair.
I grip the railing tighter and my heart pounds in my chest.
I’ve done this countless times, but I can never shake that tingling in my stomach.
I push it aside and get into position, pointing my weapon at my target.
It’s unlike any other gun you’ve ever seen.
This one’s been developed by a colleague of mine, Ryan Parker, an introverted scientist with messy hair and glasses.
He may not be the best looking guy around, but he’s a genius—there’s no denying that.
This weapon, however, is not his best work.
It’s a free fall gun—a specialized firearm that can nullify or reverse gravity in an area of a few square feet, causing objects to fall in the opposite direction.
It may not sound like much, but consider this—it can turn a skyscraper into a weapon of mass destruction.
The gun can make it fall upward into space, then return to its original position and drop to the ground at freefall speed, obliterating anything it touches when it lands.
It’s absolutely terrifying to think that something so small can do so much damage, which is why I’ve been tasked with guarding it with my life.
I look down at the streets so far below me—people are just tiny specks on the sidewalks.
I take a deep breath and pull the trigger.
There’s no loud bang or recoil; only a soft whirring sound as the gun charges up, then quiet again as it fires a high-speed projectile at my target.
It disappears into the darkness and I can only wait for it to do its job.
But as I’m waiting, I can’t help but think about how this is an entirely new level of technological advancement.
We’re on the brink of something new, and you never know what kind of people will pop up in times like these, trying to gain control of things that they shouldn’t have.
