“Are you sure we should be up here?”
James asked, glancing around the attic.
“It looks like this place hasn’t been touched in years.”
“Yeah, I’m sure.”, I replied, rolling my eyes.
The attic was a maze of memories that I’d forgotten about and things my family just didn’t want to throw away.
It really did look like it hadn’t been cleaned in forever, but it was perfect.
I loved it and I couldn’t wait to show it to Alex and James.
They’d never been up here before and I didn’t know why.
It was the perfect hiding place and if I had known it existed when we were younger, we probably would have spent all of our time up here playing games.
We made our way through the attic and I couldn’t help but smile as I looked around and saw all of the things that had accumulated over the years.
There were boxes of old clothes, furniture that we no longer used, and even some of my old toys that I’d forgotten about.
I remembered playing with those old action figures when I was younger and they were my favorite toys.
I didn’t know we still had them!
I looked over at a shelf and saw an old soccer ball that had a hole in it, which meant I must have kept it for a long time since I wasn’t very good at soccer and didn’t play for very long.
Underneath the shelf was an almost finished jigsaw puzzle that I remember putting together with my dad one rainy weekend when I was young.
“Look at all of this stuff!”, Alex said as he picked up an action figure from one of the boxes.
“I can’t believe you still have all of these things.”
I ran over to him and grabbed another action figure from the box and said, “This was my favorite one!”
I pointed to a doll on the floor and said, “That’s one of my old dolls.”
James picked up the soccer ball and said, “This thing is so flat, you must have played with it a lot.”
“I actually haven’t seen that in years.”, I said as I walked over to James and took the ball from him.
“I’m surprised you still have it.”
“Yeah… well… I never really had the heart to throw any of this stuff away.”, I replied.
“It’s nice to come up here and look at everything every once in a while.”
“Do you remember when we used to play soccer together?”, James asked us.
“Yeah! That was so much fun.”, Alex replied.
“Do you guys remember that time James scored his first goal and he ran around the field with his shirt off?”, I asked.
