MidReal Story

Chapter One When I woke up, I was no longer human. The first thing I noticed was the way my body felt against the bed. Smooth, like silk. No, not silk. More like satin. And my skin was even softer than the sheets. I could feel every thread of the fabric through my nightgown. But that wasn’t all that was different. I felt a sort of strange energy running through me, and I could feel the shift in my body. It was…subtle. Hard to put into words. I climbed out of bed and went to the bathroom to get a look at myself in the mirror. I…wow. I had always been pretty, but now I was stunning. My eyes were a bright, almost glowing green, and my lips were a dark, luscious red. My hair was long and luxurious, tumbling in waves around my shoulders. And my figure… I looked like a supermodel. Long legs, tiny waist, and a rack that would make any girl jealous. But there was something else in my eyes. Some hidden pain that made me look older than my nineteen years. The worst part was that I had no idea what it was. What the hell happened to me? I turned on the water and splashed it on my face a few times before grabbing a towel to dry off. When I looked back in the mirror, I did a double take. My reflection was different again. Before, I’d looked like someone in their early twenties. Now, I looked like I could be in high school. A very attractive high school student, but still… I tried to shake it off as I went back into the bedroom to get dressed for the day. But when I tried to open my closet, it didn’t budge. That’s weird. I grabbed the doorknob with both hands and pulled harder. It still didn’t move. I sighed and sat down on the bed for a moment to think. Clearly, something was wrong here. I wasn’t sure how or why, but something had happened to me last night. Maybe I can find some answers at university. It’s not too far away. I got up and went back into the bathroom to do my makeup and hair. I put on a little mascara and lip gloss before grabbing my purse and heading out the door. As soon as I stepped outside, I knew something was wrong. The world around me was…different. It was like everything had been shifted slightly to one side, so nothing was where it should be. The buildings were taller, or shorter, or wider than they should be. The sky was a different color than it should have been. And there were creatures everywhere. They moved through the streets with an otherworldly grace that left me breathless with awe and envy. Some of them had wings that fluttered behind them as they walked, while others had tails that slithered along the ground like snakes. Some had sleek fur covering their bodies from head to toe, while others had sharp fangs sticking out from under their lips or claws that tipped their fingers. I stumbled back in shock as one of them came toward me. He was tall and muscular, with silver hair that fell around his shoulders in waves and deep purple eyes that seemed to stare right through me. He reached out and took my hand in his, lifting it to his lips for a kiss. “Lilith,” he murmured as he pulled away from me. “You look different somehow.” “Who are you?” I asked, pulling my hand away from him. He grinned. “You don’t remember me?” I shook my head.

Chapter One
When I woke up, I was no longer human.
And my figure…
I looked like a supermodel.
A very attractive high school student, but still…
I tried to shake it off as I went back into the bedroom to get dressed for the day.
“You look different somehow.”
“Who are you?” I asked, pulling my hand away from him.
He grinned. “You don’t remember me?”
I shook my head.
He opened his mouth to say something else, but I didn’t hear him. My vision swam and then went black as I crumpled to the ground.
When I woke up, I was lying on a soft bed with the silver-haired man leaning over me. His eyes were filled with concern.
“What happened?” I asked, trying to sit up.
“Don’t move,” he said, gently pushing me back down. “You passed out.”
“I know that,” I snapped. “What did you do to me?”
He looked surprised. “Nothing. I was just talking to you.”
“Why can’t I remember anything?” I asked, my voice trembling. “I don’t remember how I got here, or what happened to me. I don’t even remember my own name.”
He reached out and took my hand in his. “Shh. It’s okay, Lilith. Everything will be all right.”
“I’m not Lilith!” I cried, trying to pull my hand away from him. “My name is Miara. Miara Frost.” My head throbbed with each word, and I groaned in pain.
The man’s eyes widened. “Frost? As in the daughter of Lord Frost?”
I nodded, wincing as the movement made my head hurt worse.
“There’s been a terrible mistake,” he said, frowning. “But don’t worry. We’ll figure this out.”
“How do you know my name?” I asked.
He looked at me as if I were an idiot. “Because you’re wearing a name tag that says ‘Miara Frost’ on it.”
I glanced down at my chest and saw that he was right. There was a little silver tag pinned to the front of my dress that read ‘Miara’ in flowing script.
“How did you get here, Miss Frost?” he asked gently.
“Call me Miara,” I said automatically.
His eyes softened with amusement. “Very well. How did you get here, Miara?”
“I was walking outside my apartment when it suddenly dawned on me that something terrible had happened to me last night,” she murmured.
“What do you mean, something terrible?” he asked.
“Well, for one thing, I’m obviously not in the right body,” she said, gesturing at herself.
He raised an eyebrow at her.
“…Not that there was anything wrong with my old body,” she added hastily.
